In general, the TechEd '07 results by now are quite impressive:
  • 10 - 20% increase of attendees compared to 2006. TechEd '07 EMEA (Munich, Oct 17th - 19th) was attended by approx. 4.100 participants. US TechEd '07 (Las Vegas, Oct 2nd - 5th) convinced more than 6.000 attendees to take part.
  • TechEd '07 Las Vegas had approx. double the number of session hours (~ 1.000) compared to TechEd '07 Munich (~ 500). The reason is that many sessions were offered in Las Vegas at least twice. Some of the sessions were held only in Munich or in Las Vegas - cause in seldom cases it wasn't possible to staff the sessions at both locations (e.g. sessions taught by SAP partners, customers, ...).

What about the SAP NetWeaver Composition track?

It was one of nine tracks and it covered more than 60 session hours (in Munich, more than 120 in Las Vegas). Apropos, the CE hands-on sessions were pretty high rated by the attendees. Each session of the CE track was accompanied by the distribution of an evaluation DVD of SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SR1. Furthermore the DVD was offered at the CE booth. As a result more than 1.000 DVDs were distributed at TechEd '07 Las Vegas and more than 1.500 at TechEd '07 Munich. However the SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SR1 evaluation version was/is not only available on a DVD but furthermore from SDN download page. Right before TechEd '07 Munich - it started on Oct 17th - the SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SR1 evalution version was downloaded more than 10.000 times, which is - as I think - a quite impressive figure.

Meanwhile SR1 is more or less outdated: since beginning of November SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SR3 evaluation is ready to be downloaded from SDN download page. Ok, outdated does not mean that you should uninstall SR1 immediately ... but if you don't have a CE installation yet, do not download and install the SR1 but the SR3 version. By the way: the SR3 evaluation can be take from here. After 10 days of availability of the new CE 7.1 SR3 evaluation version, it was downloaded 800 times already. Not that bad, eh? Ok - that's enough of figures and numbers. Let's talk about

Contents and TechEd '07 experiences:

During the sessions and at the SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment booth we discussed

  • General questions: E.g. related to the transition of CAF in SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) to SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1, e.g. where is CAF now? What about guided procedures? What is the new structure of SAP NetWeaver CE? Which components are part of SAP NetWeaver CE, which one do I have to install as an add-on? What infrastructures are supported by SAP NetWeaver CE? Check out SDN Composition Environment Page is live to answer some of these questions.
  • Questions regarding technical details and architecture: When is it useful to use remote persistency? What type of callable objects are available within guided procedures?  How can I integrate Visual Composer UIs into my composite application? What is the best way to insert own business logic into the composite? Are there general rules regarding composite architecture? What is the best business modeling approach? Some possible answers for those questions can be found in this blog/article: Architecture Guidelines for Composite Applications - Part II is Available!. Don't miss the forums - especially for technical discussions: Composite Applications & Composite Applications. And, since some weeks this new New Book: SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment is published.
  • Organizational questions: How can I get SAP NetWeaver CE? What's about RampUp, how can my company join? Is there information about the roadmap, release planning? What kind of knowledge is needed to build composites with SAP NetWeaver CE? Is there consulting support available? If you face such questions, do not hesitate to send an e-mail to composition@sap.com.

However, reading the specified blogs & articles cannot replace a TechEd visit ....
