SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 – Available now!

SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 was released on 11th of September to the SAP NetWeaver customer base.

SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 is the compatible follow up release of SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.4, 7.5 or 7.51. Depending on your current release, you can set up SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 either through new installation or upgrade from an older SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP installation.

SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 offers the foundation for SAP S/4HANA on-premise edition 1709 and is also available as a standalone platform for custom development of modern ABAP-based business applications. Along with these two major use cases SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 is the foundation for standalone ABAP add-ons that are only supported on top the SAP HANA database like Hybris Marketing and Compliance. The SAP Fiori Front-end Server (FES) as a prominent example uses SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.52 as its foundation.

Modern ABAP development in Eclipse benefits from ABAP language improvements, further SAP HANA optimizations and is based on Core Data Services (CDS) and responsive SAP Fiori UI. Nevertheless all classical ABAP UI technologies (Web Dynpro etc.) are still fully supported. Further major step on the way to efficient development of SAP HANA optimized SAP Fiori apps is the use of the ABAP programming model for SAP Fiori, which includes technologies such as CDS, Business Object Processing Framework (BOPF), SAP Gateway and SAPUI5.

SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 supports real-time event-driven programming using ABAP Channels and ABAP Daemons and Industrial IoT scenarios with shop-floor applications.

SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 offers effective code analysis tools to minimize the effort for our customers to adapt custom code during system conversion to SAP S/4HANA. The adaptations are required due to the simplifications (e.g. data model changes, removal of obsolete functionality, removal of redundant components) made in SAP S/4HANA in comparison to the classic SAP Business Suite.

The SAP S/4HANA extensibility, i.e. the in-app extensibility and the side-by-side extensibility using SAP Cloud Platform, was further optimized in the release.

This document will be regularly updated. Stay tuned to be informed about the latest SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 news.

      Hi @olga.dolinskaja,

Can we use Abap 7,52 any EHP version on ERP?

Same question for abap 7.51 actually.

      Hi Abdullah,

no, SAP Business Suite releases are not shipped on SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 or SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.51. But you can still use 7.51 and 7.52 for standalone custom ABAP development.

      Hi Olga,

will SAP Business Suite anyday be shipped with NW 7.51 oder 7.52? or are these innovations only for s4/hana?

question 2: have you any idea if SAPUI > 1.44 will anyday be available for SAP Business Suite or only for s4/hana?

      regards,

      Hi Oliver,

the SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.51 and 7.52 releases are foundations for the corresponding S/4HANA products 1610 and 1709. So these innovations are only for the SAP S/4HANA. SAP Business Suite is on SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.50 and it is not possible to make any statement regarding future SAP Business Suite release plans. But you can still use 7.51 and 7.52 for ABAP standalone custom development and benefit from the innovations in ABAP stack. Correspondingly SAP_UI 50 is the software component (incl. SAPUI5) within the SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.50 for the SAP Business Suite. Additionally SAP Fiori 2.0 is also available for SAP Business Suite. But it is not possible to make any statement about the future SAPUI5 releases for SAP Business Suite.

      Regards,

      Olga.

Is the NW AS ABAP 7.52 available for download ? I'm testing NW on GCP right now and would like to definitely test 7.52. And actually my installation is waiting for it right now,

Specify a location for the requested package Installation Export NW AS ABAP 752 (folder EXP1).
SOLUTION: Specify the location which contains the correct LABEL.ASC file (look for SAP:NETWEAVER:752:EXPORT(1/3):*:*).

If you have this package for download would be awesome.

      Thanks,

NW 7.51 and 7.52 is innovation package, not included in the Business Suite stack. You can install it as standalone system or go for the cloud, where 7.52 is included.

      Dear Attila,

Thank you for your answer and sorry that I didn't tell you that my problem has been solved.

My scenario is I generated XML for S/4HANA 1709SPS02 stack from MOPZ.

In shis stack it require "SAP:ASABAP:S4_752:DVD_EXPORT:AS ABAP 7.52 FOR S/4HANA FES Installation Export DVD" and i download it as requested.

But, when I try to install with this stack, it ask me for SAP:NETWEAVER:752:EXPORT(1/3):*:*). which is i didn't have it.

Then I try to install without stack, it ask for correct DVD and work fine now.

      Thank you for your help.

Important to note as this has come up with other customers:

ABAP 7.51 and 7.52 do *not* support standalone "NetWeaver Hubs" such as Portal, BW etc...

https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2524430 -  SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP 7.52: Release Information Note

"It contains innovations for the ABAP stack, but does not contain a Java stack.
SAP NetWeaver hubs such as Business Warehouse, Enterprise Portal or Process Orchestration are not included."

      Hello @olga.dolinskaja,

my developer colleagues and me are wondering since a longer time, when SAP will finally remove the object name limit of 30 characters (for classes, interfaces, methods,..). This restriction is very old-fashioned, and can really make you mad 😉 The restriction is in place for more types of objects, but my request is mainly about all objects related to object oriented programming. Let me explain why:

Especially when you are designing new fully object oriented applications, you want to apply clean code principles, and one part of that is a proper naming. When developing object oriented, we always compare it with Java. One main difference in Java is, that you are developing an application within a project, and you only have to take care about naming withing that project.

In ABAP, class names are stored in the global dictionary, so you have to align and take care of naming of ALL objects from all processes in the system. In a big company with hundreds of processes, this is a big deal. To avoid naming conflicts, you needs to add some overhead like prefixes to the class names to somehow seperate and identify the objects between all the different business areas and processes.

This reduces the number of characters for the actual name. And to have readable and maintainable code, the names should be speaking. So, it should tell, what it does. If you are forced to use heavy abbreviations, later no one will easily understand, what it is. By the way, the argument with name prefixes is just an additional reason. Even without that, the full 30 characters are sometimes too short.

I think there are many other reasons, why this naming limitation is a headache for developers. And I understand, why this is in place. ABAP is still suffering heavily from it´s long history (with the whole OO capability just added on top an existing architecture) and backwards compatibility.

But in the end, to enable a professional way of developing, and to keep pace with state of the art development technology, this restriction (and other OO restrictions) really needs to be removed.

Therefore, my question is, can this be enhanced in a future ABAP release?

Or, besides the blog comments or the community, where can we officially request such enhancements for the language? On influence.sap.com I did not find the right place or project, where it would fit.

      Best Regards,

      Michael von Keitz

      Hello Michael,

We see the advantage of longer identifier names and we have it on our wish list. However because of other priorities and the insufficient cost-benefit ratio there are no plans for implementation at the moment. Besides the cost for enhance the ABAP compiler and VM there are extra cost to adapt the whole tool chain and even application programs must be adapt if dynamic programming is in use. If there are changes to this situation in the future then we will rethink.

      Regards

      Holger

      Hi Olga

We are planning to upgrade NW 7.50  to NW 7.52. Reading General Information

SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 is an ABAP only stack! Do not upgrade a full SAP NetWeaver stack to SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52.

      1. Installation of a new SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 platform
      2. Upgrade from a previous SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP installation (e.g. SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.4, 7.5 or 7.51)

Our system has Usage Type Application Server ABAP, with SAP BW Component installed (SAP Business Warehouse 7.50)

Could we Upgrade to 7.52? We have to install an Add-on only available for SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52
