Blending Charts on Optimized Stories | SAP Analytics Cloud

Hello

I am using SAP Analytics Cloud to visualize data across multiple data sources. Some data is imported into models and some data is leveraged through live connections to other SAP products such as S/4. 

I am trying to create charts that blend data across multiple models. Using the optimized design experience I can setup linked dimensions, however to create the chart SAP Analytics Cloud indicates that the linked dimension must be included in the chart (see screenshot).

In many cases the only link in data is through a common ID. This stops me from being able to create most of my desired charts. In the classic story it was possible to create charts without including the linked dimension. 

Is there a way to create charts in the optimized design experience without including the linked dimension? If not is there a recommended approach to achieve my desired outcome?

Ideally I would not have to use the classic experience as this is no longer recommended.
