In our next SAP on IBM i webcast, Olaf Rutz (IBM Distinguished Engineer & CTO, SAP Technology Infrastructure) will look at the transition process from the SAP Business Suite on IBM i to SAP S/4HANA and provide insight into IBM’s strategy for their SAP customers. With SAP’s communicated maintenance strategy for the SAP Business Suite and related products, SAP on IBM i customers need to think about the future of their IT infrastructure.
The journey from the SAP Business Suite to SAP S/4HANA or another SAP product is more than just another database migration or product upgrade. Some very fundamental questions need to be answered, starting with checking the availability of certain application components or add-ons in the new world and searching for potential replacement products. Do you target cloud or on-premises? Legal requirements, strategic goals and the importance of in-house developed code may influence the decision, and you may end up with a hybrid cloud environment for a while or forever. Questions of special interest for current IBM i customers, such as the connectivity between SAP S/4HANA and IBM i or the Data Migration Option (DMO), will also be touched at a higher level.
