Q: Do you plan to provide integrations for Event Mesh capability of SAP Integration Suite with other messaging platforms besides Azure Event Grid? (e.g. NATS.IO)

Q: Can SAP S/4HANA on-premise directly integrate with Azure Event Grid, without having Event Mesh capability of SAP Integration Suite?

Q: Could the Event Mesh capability of SAP Integration Suite replace the Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite for asynchronous messages?

  • A: No. The Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite is a middleware that offers a lot more capabilities that are specific to the middleware.

Q: How do we size or architect Event Mesh or Advanced Event Mesh if millions of events are generating by Event sources and x-time more the consumers.

Q: Does (SAP Integration Suite) Advanced Event Mesh provide re-submission capabilities?

  • A: Yes, Advanced Event Mesh supports this.

Q: How many subscriber queues can we create for one Topic? For Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite I believe the limit is 30 queues.

Q: Can events also be send to other message queues than Event Mesh capability of SAP Integration Suite from SAP S/4HANA?

  • A: Yes, this is possible.

Q: We're using 'standard' Event Mesh capability of SAP Integration Suite. Do we need to restart from scratch when we want/need to use Advanced Event Mesh?

  • A: Advanced Event Mesh is a separate service and you need to set it up from scratch. However, you can use standard and advanced event mesh as complementary services for creating an event-driven ecosystem.

Q: The messages from SAP S/4HANA business objects are very simplistic. It would be great if we could specify what data the message should contain. For example, the client # would be helpful.

  • A: As of now "notification event" in cloud events format is supported and provides only business object id and type of operation. One needs to have right authorization to retrieve the complete object details (if needed) by connecting to SAP S/4HANA.
A: Support of "Data Event" with more information on the event is under discussion.

Edge Integration Cell & SAP PI/PO migration to SAP Integration Suite:

Q: What will be pricing model for Edge Integration Cell, will it be different than cloud one (Integration Cell)?

Q: Will the CPU Cores for Edge Integration Cell be like in SAP PO?

  • A: You will probably need to use a reverse proxy to forward requests, like NGINX or SAP Web Dispatcher.

Q: Is it planned, that the Edge Integration Cell runs also on an on-premise Kubernetes?

  • A: Yes, the Edge Integration Cell will also run on on-premise Kubernetes platforms, such as Linux and IBM, this is planned for after general availability.

  • Kindly check the SAP Integration Suite Roadmap: SAP Road Map Explorer

Q: Will it be possible to run some iFlows in the cloud runtime (Integration Cell) and some in the local, on-premise (Edge Integration Cell) environment?

  • A: Yes, this is possible, you can decide where you want to deploy your integration flows.

Q: Is there a chance that SAP Process Integration / SAP Process Orchestration maintenance will be extended further than 2027/2030?

Q: When we will get complete migration tool from SAP PO to SAP Integration Suite, with all types of integration scenarios.

Q: Some of the existing features exist in SAP Process Orchestration like IDOCXMLTOFLATFILE module features are missing in SAP BTP. Are we planning to bring those pre-build mapping in SAP BTP?

  • A: IDOC to XML and reverse is an out-of-the-box step in the Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite. For Flatfile conversion, we recommend script-based conversions.

Q: What is the migration scenario if you use SAP PI with SwingUI, so no iFlows?

  • A: Currently, the classical configuration scenarios are not being targeted by the migration tool. We recommend using SAP PO 7.5 and above as older versions went out of maintenance end of 2020. For SwingUI, we support the ICO migration. In beta, we support ICOs only, iflow is on the roadmap. And for any UI requirements, we have the services on SAP BTP (SAP Build Apps) which is a recommended alternative.

Q: Can SAP NW BPM based orchestrations from SAP PO be migrated to SAP Integration Suite?

  • A: The alternative for system-centric flows is SAP Integration Suite. And for the human-centric flows the option to look at is SAP Process Automation. We do not have a migration path for the BPM artifacts currently.

Q: If you migrate form SAP PI on-prem to Edge Integration Cell (Ground to Ground), can you keep the same URLs (hostname & path) for SOAP and REST PI Endpoints? (We have 300 of them)

  • A: Yes, you can use a reverse proxy / web dispatcher to forward request and keep the same URL

SAP Integration Suite – Cross Topics

Q: What is the future of the SAP Open Connectors within SAP Integration Suite?

  • A: There will be more adapters added to the Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite, such as Slack, Rabbit MQ, Splunk, and many more. Kindly check the SAP Integration Suite Roadmap: SAP Road Map Explorer

Q: When will SAP Integration Suite be “GxP Compliant” to enable use in Life-sciences Industry?

Q: Is there a plan to bring iRPA under the "SAP integration Suite" offering?

  • A: Currently, we are seeing the market evolving and requesting for Hyperautomation. But we are yet to hear our customers point of view for this and how it is being implemented in your organizations today. This will be interesting for us to hear and learn to project on our product offerings. For now, it is a thoughtleadership session. Please feel free to reach out to us, we are always interested in customer discussions.

Q: Is SAP Integration Suite an evolution alternative for SAP Cloud Platform Integration (SCPI), SAP PI/PO, etc.?

  • A: Yes, SAP Integration Suite is a product bundle containing multiple integration services, such as Cloud Integration, API Management, Integration Advisor, Trading Partner Management etc. One of the benefits of SAP Integration Suite is that we bring these integration services closer together, e. g. through a common tooling for an enhanced developer experience.

Q: Does iRPA need SAP Integration Suite for Integrations or its direct connect between SAP S/4HANA and BOTs?

  • A: iRPA can use the APIs for SAP S/4HANA as well, for mediated communications SAP Integration Suite is the best fit.

Q: Where are the old questions & answers?

SAP Integration Suite & SAP Continuous Integration and Delivery service (CI/CD setup)

Q: Where I can find the recording for the TechEd session for SAP Integration Suite & SAP Continuous Integration and Delivery service (CI/CD setup)?

Q: Do we have something new for on-premise object transports?

  • A: SAP Integration Suite is a cloud solution. If you're looking for on-prem object transports, you might want to look into the Change and Transport System (CTS): Change and Transport System (sap.com)

Q: Can you please provide advantages of SAP Continuous Integration and Delivery service (CI/CD) vs. Transport Managing Service (TMS) for SAP Integration Suite?

  • A: TMS is enabling things like approvals of transports, and transports into multiple systems. CI/CD let's you automate processes. You can combine both by trigger the transport to TMS automatically (Piper step to come) and then do the approval in TMS.

Q: We are using downloaded file not as transport request from SAP Integration Suite. To automate, it needs a Jenkin job at backend. Is that correct?

  • A: To automate this, you either need to have a Jenkins job that runs your Jenkinsfile, or you can subscribe to and use the SAP Continuous Integration and Delivery service, which has a pre-made pipeline for you. When you use that service you don't need to have your own Jenkins instance. Mayur will walk you through setting up the job in the SAP Continuous Integration and Delivery service later in the session: Leveraging Commands from “Piper” for CI/CD Setup with SAP Integration Suite [IN180]

Q: How about deploying other artifacts? Value-mapping? Script Collection?

Q: How is this project following the CI/CD pipelines principles, like automating testing etc.? Can we get a glance of that?

Q: Does CI/CD use a downloaded file (MTAR) or it is automated from one environment to another?

SAP Integration Suite & Central Monitoring of Integration Scenarios Using SAP Cloud ALM

Q: Where can I find an overview when to use which monitoring tool from SAP?

Q: In Health monitoring, can we monitor the actual hardware resource utilization, MPL log threshold, JMS queue utilization?

  • A: It is not possible to see the hardware resource utilization for SAP Integration Suite, as it is a SaaS service which is operated by SAP. But for other products which are operated by the customer (e.g. SAP S/4HANA) it is also possible to get insight into hardware resources like CPU, memory and disk utilization.

  • JMS queue utilization is already supported today as shown by Gabriela (in the TechEd session Central Monitoring of Integration Scenarios Using SAP Cloud ALM [IN280]). For other Cloud Integration tenant resources, we have a roadmap item which will enable customers to monitor the tenant health of the Cloud Integration capability locally in the SAP Integration Suite. This roadmap item also talks about having a remote API for an integration with SAP Cloud ALM: SAP Road Map Explorer

Q: Is it possible to configure a business service with a filter on specific Cloud Integration packages before any messages are pulled from Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite?

  • A: Yes, this is possible on the runtime data which is already pulled from Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite. Information about the available filters for the different categories you'll find here: SAP Integration Suite (Cloud Integration).
That's now specific for SAP Integration Suite (Cloud Integration). At the moment the data collection can only be filtered with the STATUS and STATUS GROUP. We have the plans to enhance this in the further future.

Q: If we have a business flow consisting of a Non-SAP Source, Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite as a middleware, and SAP On-premise as a target, will SAP Cloud ALM be able to support this end-to-end business flow and message tracking?

  • A: The current solution is only able to show you the end-to-end flow between the Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite and the SAP on-premise system. For the Non-SAP source we'll only see the message which is retrieved within the Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite.

Q: Do we need to pay licensing cost to use SAP Cloud ALM for monitoring purpose? If yes, how much it would cost?

  • A: No, SAP Cloud ALM is a free offering from SAP and it comes with any cloud contract. Means, as soon as you have any cloud product in place from SAP you should be able to request a tenant. Information about the usage rights and request process can be found here: SAP Cloud ALM and Usage Rights (sap.com)

Q: Is it possible to increase the frequency of data collection from 5 minutes?

  • A: No, it's currently not possible to change the frequency for pull-based data collection (Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite). In case of push-based data collection (e.g. SAP S/4HANA Cloud) it's possible to change it.

Q: What's about the usage rights of SAP Cloud ALM? Which SAP support contract is needed or comes with it with the booked SAP BTP [SAP Integration Suite, Cloud Integration] Neo Services and all the other SAP Cloud Services like SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Concur etc.

  • A: SAP Cloud ALM is a free offering and the customer is allowed to use it as soon as a cloud contract is available. (Cloud Integration capability of SAP Integration Suite, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Concur...). Usage rights are captured here: Usage Rights (sap.com)
You can check if you're allowed to use it via the request process in the SAP for Me Portal: SAP Cloud ALM. There is a request button on the right side - we'll check during the process if you're allowed to request a tenant with your S-User and customer combination.

Q: A default option to create ServiceNow tickets is available but what about MS Teams or Slack options out of the box to send a notification to a group of people instead of e-mails? Roadmap doesn't show this (yet).

  • A: We have the plans to offer a kind of generic interface for creating tickets also in other ITSM tools. Regarding MS Teams and Slack we'll have a native integration in IEP (Intelligent Event Processing) in the further future.

Q: Is it possible to set a threshold before a notification is triggered?

  • A: It depends on the use case. In Integration & Exception Monitoring we are currently not supporting this kind of configuration but it's on our list for 2023. Other use cases like Health Monitoring are already supporting this.

Q: How is SAP Cloud ALM is different from SAP Focused Run 3.0

  • A: SAP Focused Run is intended for on-premise centric hybrid customer or service provider, strong focus on system management (monitoring) and also non-ABAP systems are captured there. In addition, with SAP Focused Run we can handle huge system landscapes and metric volumes. SAP Focused Run is a product which has to be licensed and bought from SAP.
SAP Cloud ALM is intended for cloud centric customers. SAP Cloud ALM is a free offering from SAP as soon as you have any cloud solution bought from SAP.
From Integration & Exception Monitoring point of view there is only a difference in the currently supported content at the moment.

Q: Is there any specific document for to enable SAP Cloud ALM tenant?

  • A: Yes, all information about the request process you can find here: SAP Cloud ALM
On the right side you see a button called "Request" which will forward you the SAP for ME portal. Documentation regarding the configuration is available here: SAP Cloud ALM for Operations Expert Portal

Q: Hello, will there also be a mobile version for phones and tablets? Example of emergency service.

  • A: In case of SAP Cloud ALM we're following the SAP UX guidelines and using Fiori and UI5. Applications should be accessible by tablet and mobile phone but they are not mobile optimised. It's currently not planned to offer native mobile applications

Q: I notice again a lot of colors are used, and I'm 'color deaf' (see colors but cannot distinquish). Is a colorblind setting for example with symbols or patterns also possible?

  • A: You can personalize your experience. We offer two themes "SAP High Contrast Black" and "SAP High Contrast White" which can be used. In addition, we have a standard which says that every symbol should have a description and also tooltips are available. I hope this would be an option for you to use SAP Cloud ALM. If not, please reach out to us.

Q: Adding to the same questions, can SAP Cloud ALM be used as central Integration monitoring solution for connecting to Third Party middlewares, ESB's such as webmethods, snaplogic etc?

  • A: Currently, it's not possible to monitor 3rd party middleware solutions. In general, the topic of 3rd party monitoring in Integration & Exception Monitoring is definitely on our list for the further future but no timeline available yet for it. At the moment we're focusing on the SAP solutions to be integrated. In addition, we have also plans to publish public APIs in the further future.
