SAP TechEd 2021: Connecting Your Enterprise with SAP Integration Suite

This blog post provides you an overview of all SAP Integration Suite sessions at SAP TechEd 2021, which our Product Management team of SAP Integration Suite offers.

SAP TechEd 2021 is SAP’s premier virtual event for developers, IT practitioners, and professionals. Due to the challenging circumstances owing to COVID, TechEd 2021 will be again open to everyone as a 3-day virtual event, November 16-18, 2021.       Hello Milena Mathyl | SAP People, and thanks for this plethora of information on IS !

      Despite my extensive research, there are still two things I am unable to explain to my clients, so I ask you to please confirm each of these points publicly:

      1) "Please note we recommend you to have a minimum of two tenants on your landscape"

      Given that SAP recommends a "minimum of two tenants on your landscape", then in fact SAP recommends -- as a minimum -- 1x Tenant for Development/Test and -- more importantly -- ONLY 1x Production CI Tenant ?

      2) In "Run an Integration Flow Under Well-Defined Boundary Conditions", we see an CI Tenant Diagram with 2x "Runtime/Worker Nodes" (with 8x DB Connections EACH -> to the same DB ?!?!)

      What is the recommendation from SAP concerning the number of "Runtime/Worker Nodes" in the Production environment, and what steps must clients take to put in place these additional "Runtime/Worker Nodes" in Production ?

      Hi Former Member ,

      Thank you for your questions.

      1) You are entirely correct. SAP recommends two tenants with SAP Integration Suite, one for development & testing and one productive tenant. Of course, some customers prefer to have more tenants due to different reasons.

      2) Regarding Runtime/Worker Notes, SAP has no recommendation for customers. Our operations team takes care of the correct configuration, and the customers don’t need to care. That’s the benefit for customers of using cloud services. 😉

      Hello Milena Mathyl | SAP People, and thanks for you prompt response.

      1) If customers choose to put in place a 2nd Production Tenant, can you please confirm that this Tenant is completely separate from and isolated from the 1st Tenant?

      What I mean by this is that if one of the Tenants fails, there is no (automatic) Fall-Over mechanism possible, and that failing Flows must themselves switch between the Tenants in the case of problems?

      If so, this would suggest that all Fall-Over logic must in fact be coded manually in ALL of the triggering Applications, as the necessary Fall-Over is not managed natively by the Cloud Integration (productive) Landscape?

      Regarding your newest question:

      Yes, you are right. The second production tenant is isolated.

      For fail-over scenarios, we will offer multi-availability zones. SAP Integration Suite is already high available. Improved High Availability (HA) is planned for H1/2022 via so-called multi-availability zones. As part of the multi-availability concept, SAP Integration Suite will run out-of-the-box on multi-availability zones that are physically close to each other and synchronized. If a multi-availability zone goes down, another availability zone will automatically take over.
