Because of your loyalty and enthusiastic support around SAP products and services, the SAP Community Network team endeavors to foster the ongoing growth and maturation of the largest online community of SAP customers, partners, systems integrators, consultants, and the various other professions too numerous to mention, and in order to deliver on this promise to you, we must from time to time update our systems,  implement new functionality, and perform basic system maintenance that will help keep our platform stable and our communities vibrant.

Therefore, our platform team will roll-out updates and new functionality on Saturday, 27 June 2009. The process will start at 8:00 A.M. CET and will result in approximately 10 hours of downtime.  All the CN communities, including SAP EcoHub will be affected.

But even though updates cause downtime, they have their advantages too, and this update will bring some important benefits including some new functionality:

Project Search 2.0: Faceted Search:  Finding information across the web is the most fundamental use case of the web.  Without search engines and basic navigation, nobody would be able to locate anything.  The search application as you know it on SCN has evolved very little since the launch of SDN back in 2004.  We have received numerous comments, feedback, and complaints about the search application.  It is finally time to launch a new search application.  Not only will this new search application look a lot better, it will allow you to navigate the search results based on assigned metadata, similar to searching for products on Amazon.

Rate this!:  Everyone should by now be familiar with a 5-star rating system; many web systems use them today, like Amazon.  With this platform release, we will introduce phase 1 of a 3-phased project to provide ratings and reviews across our web assets.  Read what Maya Bahar has to say about Rate this!.

And there are various other updates too numerous to mention.

The Community Network team apologizes for any inconvenience that the downtime might cause, but we are certain that you will appreciate the final results.
