As a Pay-As-You-Go for SAP BTP customer, I would like to limit the duration of use

Hello,

As a Pay-As-You-Go for SAP BTP customer, I would like to stop my ABAP development instance during the night to limit the hours of use. How to proceed?

Is it the duration of connection to the environment that determines the hours billed? Or is the presence of the instance sufficient to count the hours?

Thank you for your support,

Martial

Hi Martial,

this is unfortunately not possible.

There is only the option to delete an ABAP environment instance.

Suspend / resume does not work.

The current metric “system life time” for pay-per-use is, for example, helpful for CI/CD scenarios where test systems are created only temporarily

Kind regards,

Andre

Hi Andre,

looking at the current PAYG price list, it states for the ABAP environment that the metric is the number of 16GB blocks per runtime/persistence unit and there is a unit price per hour given.

So this unit price does not refer to "runtime hours" but rather "system lifetime hours"? Pretty disapointing to be honest. And confusing. I spent quite some hours trying to find out, what it would cost us as a partner to set up a certain (actually pretty simple) scenario and during this time I came to different conclusions already before ending up with what I thought was finally correct. Is it now turns out it still was not.

Can you please point me to the official documentation where I can find this (and all related) information regarding pricing? Obviously I missed it.

Thanks a lot in advance and kind regards, Roland

Hi r.schroth,

in the documentation Creating an ABAP System you will find that the minimal number of persistency is 2. To get the SAP Partner Pricing you should check SAP Non-Commercial Price List on the Partner Edge page.

Thanks gregorw ,

I already got a price list from the Partner Edge portal earlier, titled "SAP Partner Price List 2021" but obviously with the exact same content (dated December 2021, too). In both however is stated that there is a minimum of 4 blocks of persistence.

Both lists futhermore state a fixed price per month in the service list for the ABAP Environment. Under the section "Pay as you go for SAP partners" the pricing for that option is given as "based on consumption" referencing the payg price list which lists hourly unit prices for the ABAP environment.

And consulting the estimator (ABAP environment in PAYG) as a third source, one finds a third price tag. And there again you read "consumption-based license model" and "unit price per hour" which lead (at least me and the original author here, I guess) to the belief that there was more influence on the actual consumption than creating and deleting an instance ...

Bottom line: I do not find the provided information consistent or easy to comprehend. Having less places with more precise and detailed information would be really appreciated.

Thanks anyway and best regards, Roland
