Working styles have drastically changed. Business processes are becoming increasingly automated, and decision-making has become less dependent on physical presence in an office or at a desk. These trends point to one thing – the future of work is mobile. To empower our workforce, we must make sure users are always able to execute their most important business processes and stay on top of all important business events – wherever they are.

SAP Mobile Start addresses these needs by offering relevant mobile content based on your business role, like tasks, apps, or news, and ensures that you never miss an important business event or workflow. By leveraging native Apple platform capabilities, the app provides a frictionless personal experience across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch – just as you would expect from using personal apps. SAP Mobile Start behaves exactly like the consumer apps you are used to, while enabling you to work mobile.

To allow you to stay on top of your business processes, the app provides relevant content on three main screens:
The Start Screen, combines your latest to-dos and app notifications, as well as monitoring tile updates, and news feed. By providing relevant news, you stay up-to-date on your company, industry, and business domain. With app suggestions, SAP Mobile Start promotes apps that could be helpful to you based on your usage patterns.

The Application Screen has all the relevant native and web-optimized apps like SAP S/4HANA Fiori apps and web links. You can search for apps from your app catalogue and get started right from the in-app search.

On the To-Do Screen, you have access to all your workflow tasks that are federated from various solutions using the SAP Task Center service. Thus, you will no longer overlook any tasks on the move, and can process them with just one click, significantly shortening the approval time for critical items.

Now, let´s have a look at the main Apple platform features that SAP Mobile Start leverages to ensure that users are always up to date, and never miss any important business events.

Never miss a business-critical situation

Native push notifications
SAP Mobile Start supports you with native push notifications that are triggered from your various backend solutions and consolidated via the SAP Notification service. You will be reminded of critical events or updates, even when your device is locked if you choose Lock Screen notifications. Push notifications are also available on your Apple Watch when you can’t check your iPhone. All notifications are also accessible from the Notification Center within SAP Mobile Start.

Native widgets
Native widgets provide you with the latest SAP S/4HANA updates, like an increased number of open sales orders or a new to-do you have to tackle. You can configure the widgets exactly to your liking: On the Home Screen, you choose which and how many widgets you’d like to display, position them on any the page of your choice, and even stack them. With the help of widgets, you get instant access to your most critical business data right on your Home Screen. If you need to take further actions, you can get right into the underlying business app simply by tapping on a widget.

In addition to the Home Screen, you can also add widgets to your Lock Screen, so that you can see your most important data even when your device is locked.

Apple Watch companion app
The latest release of SAP Mobile Start is now also available as an Apple Watch app. The app shows your latest to-dos, as well as business information. For the best user experience, you can filter to-dos by type, drill into details, and take care of your to-dos immediately. With Apple Watch complications, you can even see the number of your open to-dos and monitoring information right on your Watch.

Find your apps immediately

Spotlight Search Integration
Instead of spending time searching for an SAP S/4HANA web app, SAP Mobile Start allows you to search and open your SAP apps directly through Spotlight search on your iPhone or iPad. SAP Mobile Start indexes your web-optimized apps and then leverages them to device search capabilities, significantly speeding up the time to get to your content while being mobile. You can just type in the app name in the native device search and run it directly from the search result list.

Native app development

Native app development on Apple platforms also offers tremendous benefits to SAP Mobile Start when it comes to security, performance, accessibility, and - most importantly - user experience.

Performance
As a native app, SAP Mobile Start for Apple is optimised for Apple platforms. It is built especially for iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, and compiles using the Apple programming language Swift and APIs, substantially speeding up the app’s performance. A native app is more responsive and efficient, providing a better user experience.

Security
SAP Mobile Start guarantees users the best data protection as it does not rely on different browsers and technologies, such as JavaScript, but uses native built-in security capabilities and enterprise grade security features of Apple and SAP.

Accessibility
SAP Mobile Start leverages the built-in accessibility features across Apple’s ecosystem that enable users with different abilities to access the app's content and functionality. These features include text-to-speech, voice commands, high-contrast modes, font-resizing and more, creating a more inclusive and user-friendly experience for all users.

User experience
SAP Mobile Start for iOS brings the consistent and intuitive experience Apple users love and expect right to their fingertips at work. This also enables high user performance and satisfaction in return. Thanks to Apple’s Swift programming language, our developers get full control over the user experience and can provide the best possible user experience.
