"Empowerment of individuals is a key part of what makes open source work, since in the end, innovations tend to come from small groups, not from large, structured efforts."

Tim O'Reilly

Traditionally SAP is not known for its contributions to the open source community, but we are adopting more open source software, as well as contributing more of our own code back into the community. This year has been especially fruitful:

  • Earlier this summer we’ve announced partnerships with two major open source projects: Pivotal’s CloudFroundry (leading PaaS cloud) and OpenStack Foundation with its popular IaaS cloud.

  • We’ve sponsored OSCON convention for the first time this year and introduced OpenUI5 to the audience which was really well received.

  • We set up a series of Bay Area Open Source meetups, and have successfully tapped into the OS community in the Bay Area.

Building upon the momentum, we decided to create a dedicated Genius Open Source Bar at SAP’s major tech event – TechEd && d-code, and we invited 6 partners to showcase joint OS projects.

Genius Open Source Bar will be located in the Hacker’s Lounge, and will be opened during all three days of the conference: Las Vegas Oct 21-23, Berlin Nov 11-13. If you would like to learn about open source innovations around SAP HANA, or learn the basics behind collaboration between Cloud Foundry and SAP to expand SAP HANA Cloud Platform, or get some hands-on experience with OpenUI5 – then the Genius Open Source Bar is the place to be.

You can meet the OS experts in the Genius OS Bar, or at one of the TechTalks. We will be sharing the schedule of Tech Talks shortly, stay tuned.

See you soon!
