Introduction

SAP Master Data Governance can be the backbone for enterprises that ensures high master data quality:

  • when they are planning to go for digital transformation or other structural optimization processes (such as M&A, divestitures, corporate restructuring)
  • as a solid data layer when implementing AI-based processes
  • for streamlined business transactions across lines of business and reliable company analytics

Latest Innovations

Recently, I outlined the innovations and associated benefits of using SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA 2023, and provided additional details about the cloud-ready mode and federated governance.

I’d like to continue with information about innovations in master data governance that come with the Feature Pack Stack 01 for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2023 and SAP S/4HANA 2023 (on premise). New features come both in central governance across domains (classic mode), in mass processing and consolidation (classic mode), in business partner processing (cloud-ready mode), and in data quality management (for classic mode and cloud-ready mode).

Cross-domain innovations for central governance in classic mode

Central governance of business partner (incl. customer and supplier data)

  • Automatically refreshed change requests after master data updates to ensure that backend changes on master data objects are not overwritten during change request activation so that intended backend changes as well as changes using a change request are compatible and consistent.
  • Validation of data in change request to include unchanged data.

Central governance of material data

  • Automatically refreshed change requests after master data updates to ensure that backend changes on master data objects are not overwritten during change request activation so that intended backend changes as well as changes using a change request are compatible and consistent.

Central governance of financial data

  • Support more attributes for account and cost center in initial load.
  • Prevent duplicate cost element groups in chart of accounts to make sure that no identical IDs are in use across controlling areas that use the same chart of account, which is relevant for flawless replication.

Innovations for consolidation and mass processing in classic mode

  • Assignment of data controllers via file upload, which can be used to control access to business partner data.
  • Configurable address handling in best record calculation.
  • Data model extension (product).

Innovations for business partner processing in cloud-ready mode

  • Federation: Facilitate that SAP S/4HANA systems running the classic mode in MDG can be integrated in a federated governance scenario as application data owners (see also the how-to guide).
  • Assignment of data controllers.
  • Configurable address handling in best record calculation.

Innovations for data quality management

  • Support derivation of class assignments and characteristics for product, customer, and supplier data.
  • Include additional result tables in derivation scenarios, that is:
    • for business partners: Financial Services Details (BP001) and Credit Master Data (UKMBP_CMS)
    • for products: Change Management (MARA_AE0I)
  • Option to disable several derivation scenarios at once.
  • In cloud-ready mode only: select process template for data remediation.

See also the presentation outlining the specified MDG innovations in SAP S/4HANA 2023 FPS01.

From the outlined innovations, you can tell that both classic mode in MDG and cloud-ready mode are continuously enhanced. The driver for innovations in classic mode is primarily the SAP Continuous Influence program, whereas the ABAP cloud based cloud-ready mode in MDG is the strategic development path going forward.
