Data is the cornerstone for every successful enterprise, we know that by now. But why is it estimated that less than 5% of the world’s data is currently being analyzed?

That means that 95% or more is not being used today. Just imagine how much untapped potential is in the data that organizations already have!

Both SAP and Intel are dedicated to helping companies create business value from this untapped data through the delivery of an unmatched portfolio of data-centric hardware and software solutions.

SAP leverages the so-called Data Value Formula, a methodology that breaks down this complicated process into three key elements: Volume, Quality, and Usage. To get the most value from your data, you need to make sure that each element is optimized. In this previous blog, we’ve illustrated how each piece of SAP’s unified data and analytics product portfolio works together to give our customers the most value from their data.

But today we want to talk about Intel’s vision, which is the perfect addition to SAP’s unified data and analytics portfolio.

Move, Store, Process, and Secure Data Faster with Intel

Together SAP and Intel will help organizations with near-real-time insights for a deeper understanding of markets and customers from data-driven capabilities with real-time business intelligence, data persistence, and greater capacity and scalability. Customers like Geberit, Mercy, Siemens, and Canadian Pacific are already leveraging the partnership between SAP and Intel to get more value from their data.

In their continuous search for improvement, Intel focuses on improving 4 key elements: Move, Store, Process, and Secure data.

Move

With the explosion of data comes the need to move data faster, especially within hyperscale data centers. Connectivity and the network have become the bottlenecks to utilize and unleash high-performance computing more effectively. Innovations such as Intel’s silicon photonics are designed to break those boundaries using our unique ability to integrate the laser in silicon and, ultimately, deliver the lowest cost and power per bit and the highest bandwidth. And SAP HANA has native tools to connect to your data, no matter where it resides.

Store

For many applications running in today’s data centers, it’s not just about moving data, it’s also about storing data in the most economical way. To that end, Intel has completely transformed the memory and storage hierarchy in the data center.

Intel® OptaneTM Persistent Memory (PMem) brings the performance of memory with the persistence of DRAM—so you can have your cake and eat it too. But with data growing, even PMem can become saturated. Intel® OptaneTM SSDs offer disk based storage fully integrated with SAP storage partners (like Pure Storage) to offer an extended store for data that doesn’t demand the performance in-memory provides. Both aspects are crucial to SAP HANA’s data tiering strategy.

Process

While yesterday’s hardware technology helped lay the foundation for big data analysis, today’s technologies let enterprises process more data faster than ever before.

Since the inception of SAP HANA we have leveraged Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, and that partnership continues now as customers adopt cloud and hybrid deployments of SAP HANA.

Secure

Every year, even as the total investment in cybersecurity grows, vulnerabilities persist with an ever-increasing volume of threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.

Security doesn’t just happen. Both SAP and Intel’s success relies on the success of our customers, and it starts with us. We have a clear long-term security strategy, and it boils down to our people, our processes, and our products. This can be seen in action with our 1B Live project—Pandemic Cohort Management, where Intel® SGX technology ensured data was encrypted at the chip layer and SAP HANA features around data anonymity were also employed.
