SAP has released the version 2024.3 of SAP Datasphere on Feb 1, 2024. Your SAP Datasphere tenants have been updated probably even before Feb 1, 2024.
Data Cataloging
1 When a manual synchronization is run on an existing source system, only the objects that have been added or changed since the last manual synchronization are updated in the catalog. This ensures that only the necessary resources are used for the synchronization.
It makes sense anyway! You can overview synchronization and see Last Manual Synchronization which is the date, time, and status when the last manual synchronization was run.
Data Integration
1 For transformation flows, you can now create an SQL view transform to combine and transform data in a powerful SQL editor. Create an SQL View Transform
You can choose as language between SQL (Standard Query) for writing a standard SQL query using SELECT statements and operators such as JOIN and UNION, OR use SQLScript (Table Function) to produce a table function.
2 You now have a better overview of all connections with warning messages. When there is one or more messages for your connections, a button is displayed in the toolbar of the Connections app specifying the number of warning messages for your connections. Clicking the button opens the list of messages providing guidance on how to solve the issues. In the connections list, connections with warning messages are highlighted in yellow. Basically a button is displayed specifying the number of warning messages for all connections in the list. You can click the button to open the list of messages. It’s a handy feature.
3 You can now add connections to packages either via the Transport app or when creating or editing connections. Furthermore, you can export and import connections via the Transport app. Transporting Content Between Tenants, Create a Connection, Change Connection Properties
If your imported content included one or more connections that didn't exist in your space before the import, you must:
- Edit the connections to complete their configuration and provide the credentials to connect to the remote systems
- Manually deploy imported objects that depend on an imported connection (and which could not, therefore, be automatically deployed)
Data Modeling
1 Validations for analytic models using level based hierarchies have been improved. Some analytic models may now raise an error message and require adaptation.
2 Business Builder objects are now listed alongside Data Builder objects in the Repository Explorer (while remaining accessible via the Business Builder). Repository Explorer
You can use Repository Explorer to access to all your SAP Datasphere objects. You can search and filter the list, open or act on existing objects, and create new objects.
3 You can now list modeling objects of any type in your space, and read and delete individual objects from the command line using the following commands. List, Read, and Delete Modeling Objects via the Command Line
- datasphere objects <object-type> list — space <id>
- datasphere objects <object-type> read — space <id> — technical-name <name>
- datasphere objects <object-type> delete — space <id> — technical-name <name>
If you access SAP Datasphere via the Command Line these are helpful new additions.
4 The new Repository tab of the Source Browser shows all the tables, views, and intelligent lookups in your space in a single list and lets you filter by collection (All, Recent, My Objects, Shared, Favorites). You can modify the sorting, perform complex filtering, and drill down into folders, as well as previewing properties and data before adding your source. Using the Source Browser
It’s definitely handy feature while creating/exploring objects in Data Builder. It lists the Repository -all objects- and you can search on the fly and see some information about the object and bring the object into the editor.
5 For currency conversion measures in the analytic model, you can now define variables for the target currency, the reference date, and the exchange rate type. Create a Currency Conversion Measure
Another very useful feature if you deal with SAP data especially. Now you can choose a constant value or a reference to the dimension, or a variable for the target currency, the target rate and the exchange rate.
6 You can now use folders to organize the objects in your space. You can create a folder in the Repository Explorer, Business Builder, or Data Builder and it is immediately available across each of these apps. Once a folder is created, you can move objects to it or create objects in it. You can create as many levels of folder as necessary. Note: The requirement that each object in a space must have a unique technical name, remains unchanged. Folders
You can create a folder in Repository Explorer, Business Builder, or Data Builder and the folders will be visible in all places. My understanding the objects’ technical names should be unique amoung all places. The folders have only business name though and not a technical name. You should use folders and come up some type of standards for your Datasphere environment.
