What’s covered?

This article is a brief of what is SAP Enable Now, deployment options, integration with S/4HANA and a few key points to note to stand up SAP Enable Now Manager instance from my experience. At the end, I have collated links and documents I referred to set up SAP Enable Now (SEN) Manager. There is a lot of content about the technical steps to set it up, so I am not repeating that.

SAP Companion and SAP Enable Now – are they synonymous?

Differentiating SAP Companion and SAP Enable Now is seemingly confusing a lot of us. In short, SAP Enable now is an application to create and publish help content while SAP Companion is the in-app help feature of SAP Enable now.

SAP Companion supports scenarios listed below for providing in application help content.

  1. Standard Content Scenario – SAP standard Help content that is delivered by default and for free. It doesn’t require an SAP Enable Now instance.
  2. Extended Content Scenario – Provides an option to customize SAP standard content and play it back in parallel with SAP standard content. This scenario is based on the standard content scenario.
  3. Custom Content Scenario – Provides an option to create user-defined help content.

SAP Enable Now is a prerequisite for scenarios 2 and 3 where content is edited or created. SAP Enable Now Manager is an application to store and deploy customized or created content and then make it available as in-app help.

How to setup SEN Manager?

You can subscribe to a cloud tenant of SEN Manager or set it up on-prem like any other application.

  • Cloud Tenant – For provisioning a cloud tenant, you need to get a contract signed with SAP as the first step. It can then take up to a week for SAP to provision. You will be receiving access information via email to proceed with setup and configuration.
  • On-prem SEN Manager – SEN Manager can be installed on-premise. It is a server application running on tomcat and connects to a Database (HANA or MS SQL).

Key pointers to setup (most apply to on-prem version)

  • Which software to download?

SAP Enable Now Consumption Edition (SAP ENABLE NOW CONSUMPT), which includes Manager (both HANA and SQL versions), Instant Producer, SLC Player, and SAP Companion for desktop (Formerly named Desktop Assistant, formerly named Navigator).

  • Do you need a license?

SAP Enable Now Manager 10.0.0 requires a license key.

Refer note 2631222 - How to create a license key for SAP Enable Now (on-premise)  on how to generate a license key.

  • Versions of the prerequisite components – Adhere to the supported versions of prerequisite components (like JRE, Tomcat etc.,). For instance, issues occur with any version other than 2013 of Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio as per Note 2479445.
  • Rendering Protocol – It is imperative to use the same protocol (http or https) for UI5 applications and SEN Manager to avoid Mixed content error. You can notice it in the browser console logs while using in-app help.
  • Can you use this component without SSO?

Both Cloud and on-prem versions work without SSO. Ensure you open the Enable Now Manager in a separate tab on the same browser to avoid 401 unauthorized errors to access or edit help content on UI5 apps.

  • URL Whitelisting – For correct content display and playback, SAP recommends adding URLs to trusted sites and allowing third-party cookies.
  • What are the parameter values for establishing integration on S/4Hana side?

All parameters and their possible values are available on SAP Enable Now Wiki. The parameter combination that worked for me for Custom content scenario is available in references.

  • Is Web dispatcher mandatory to setup Web Assistant?

No, if your version of S/4Hana is 2020 FPS01 or higher. Refer 3022494 - SAP S/4HANA (On Premise) 2020 / SAP_UI 7.56: Configure Web Assistant without SAP Web Dispatcher

  • Can I activate SAP Companion with on-prem Enable Now Manager?

Yes, only with Enable Now manager on HANA Database.

Summary

Through this blog, my effort was to put together high-level details and quick starter links for SAP Enable Now. If there are any questions or feedback, please post in the comments section.
