Mobility and Massive Data: From Maintaining to the Power of Platform Enablement

SAP Hana and Microsoft Azure Strengthen their 20 year Partnership

Meet us on the Edge:  AI-powered Apps. API Replication. AI and Machine Learning.

That's where the momentum is happening, and forward-thinking organizations are leveraging the power of platform-enablement, embedded logic apps, and delivering microservices at scale. The masses pack into conference centers globally, discussing AI and Emerging technologies as companies like –Accenture invests $30 billion in seven Innovation Labs focusing on Quantum computing and Machine Learning. While widespread usage of AI is now referred to as 'science faction'. But, there are still hurdles to achieving the desired goals.

But, wait – what about the rest who are mired in complexity, dealing with legacy applications, technological challenges resulting in organizational ones?

As the pace of innovation continues to accelerate with the onset of 5G and IoT, massive amounts of data from multiple sources is ever-increasing.  There are mounting challenges of data that is fragmented and inconsistent with a company’s brand, overall processes, and ability to make meaningful use of its application from a customer experience.

It’s also adding to an overall increase in risk from a governance and security standpoint. The proliferation of devices, apps, sources, and volume of data has spurred growth in microservices, while mobility continues to expand its significance.

The book, The Mobile Mind Shift describes the challenge of traditional technology’s capacity in its ability to handle it, as needing to deal with: “a surge in transaction volumes with mobile apps driving tenfold increases in lengths and transactions.”

The Market: Lots of standalone technology apps, legacy and on-premise solutions with heavy integration between applications is rapidly proving less efficient, costly, burdensome in complexity along with the inherent risks in security and compliance. Meanwhile, the embedded and advanced features of unified communications systems, layered business application solution stacks are introducing embedded features including dynamic logic apps powered by AI that can be leveraged across the environment.

In an interview: Competing in the AI Economy: Andrew McAfee, Principal Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and cofounder of the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy explains how AI, and machine learning in particular, 'is quickly disrupting companies’ economic models, strategy, culture, and even the very nature of how they are structured and run. But there are opportunities for companies that can answer the call—and meet the needs and wants of consumers.'

So, when it comes to leveraging emerging technologies, look to the strength of partnerships in platform enablement and those that take an enterprise perspective with back-office systems:

SAP and Microsoft expanded their twenty-year partnership in 2017 to position their customers for this transformation. Their focus is on the 'acceleration of performance, productivity, and innovation through the seamlessness of enterprise-class support.' Their commitment for certifications of products, flexible delivery models, and pricing continues to strengthen the SAP Hana solutions to run on Microsoft Azure.

As digital transformation initiatives remain top priority, the need to both accelerate and reduce risks are at the forefront. So, expanding upon these partnerships, and engaging thought leadership, Cap Gemini and MuleSoft share their perspective in an excerpt, Winning in The Digital Age. Their strategy is built upon the transformation to an API-led architecture leveraging MuleSoft with SAP Hana.

The objectives:

  • Accelerate the business

  • Designing for a permanent state of transition delivers continual value with reduced risk

  • API-led architectures will underpin the future

  • Creating a digital operating model for continuous transformation: Deploying an integration Centre for Enablement (C4E)

In conclusion, According to Gartner, “The bimodal approach to integration is emerging as the strategy that would enable directors of integrations to support the agility, flexibility and rapid integration long coveted by lines of business (LOBs), departments, application teams and power users, while maintaining a certain degree of centralised control and governance.”
