SAP Fiori Best Practices Roundtable
Peter Spielvogel had a short/high level presentation about #SAPFiori, the different floorplans and different ways #Fiori works (web/mobile/conversational UX)
Questions from the audience mainly were related to loading many tiles in the FLP and seeing performance issues. This was a common scenario for many attendees; a shared opinion was that maybe the “many tiles” needed to be reduced into different catalogues and/or seeing how the people accessing these #FLPs. Maybe even analyze the roles/hierarchy of the business groups to see if additional groups/layers could be introduced. In one of my previous projects, we experienced something similar and an approach we had was to benchmark the time in the FLP to load a tile, record the time the OData service took to return the data and trace the time in the CDS view to analyze how long it took at each layer. It seems like a straightforward approach from the development point of view however, there may be other culprits to look at one’s landscape; for example: network latency (VPN, external connection, internal company connections, etc.)
What about offline capabilities? The suggestion was that Fiori web applications are considered connected applications, while mobile native applications are supposed to be used for offline capabilities. Moreover, another suggestion was to use screen personas for mobile apps.
Another scenario that someone shared was a short view of business object for a phone screen, however, when the phone rotated to a horizontal position, additional details were shown. I think I have seen that in other scenarios but not in an SAP scenario. Good thinking!
Understanding SAP BTP Reference Architecture for Multiple-Platform Environments
Steffem Pietsch had a presentation about the different Hyperscalers and how the #BTP can work with these hyperscalers. There were some interesting additional public topics and links shared such as the AWS graviton service, the SAP private link service and in my opinion the most important for me was the Reference Architecture in SAP Discovery Center. What is a Hyperscaler--> large cloud service providers that offer large computing elastic services for companies. Hyperscalers such as #AWS, #Azure, #Google are the common players in this area.
AWS Graviton--> AWS Graviton is a family of processors designed to deliver the best price performance for your cloud workloads running in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/graviton/
SAP Private Link --> AWS currently has a service called Private Link which is a service that provides private connectivity between VPCs, on-premise networks, and AWS services without exposing traffic in the public internet. SAP private link leverages what AWS has done and further included connectivity between AWS accounts/services and BTP services. With the initial release, the following AWS services are included: AWS S3 (storage service), AWS SNS (notification service), AWS SQS (queue service), AWS SES (email service) and AWS Aurora (RDS API operations).

How PG&E used SAP Fiori Elements and CDS views to streamline Financial Process
Guy de Bruyn and Meghana Vyas did an amazing presentation explaining an internal solution they developed to overcome an issue their business had in the financial area. This solution involved receiving invoices, acknowledging them, and then providing approvals to such invoices. The business scenario was thoughtfully analyzed and solved by using a combination of new technologies such as #CAP, #Fiori-Elements, and extensions, #CDSViews, and from their demo, one of my favorite additions was the Training videos they provided their users. This presentation aligns more to my experience (HANA and Fiori) I think it was my favorite one from day 1.
