New features and assets for SAP Business Network for Logistics have been released over the last weekend! With this blog, I would like to share the highlights with you. The blog is intended for shippers and solution owners, carriers and data providers as well as sales and presales colleagues who already have a detailed understanding of SAP Business Network for Logistics.
Before diving deeper: You might have noticed that SAP changed its branding recently. Some assets have already been updated, while others will follow over time. Please bear with us during this transition phase.
SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace
New error message ‘Validation Error’ has been added in the ‘Manage Event Logs’
In the ‘Manage Event Logs’ app, the error message ‘Validation Error’ is added for solution owners to filter and analyze validation-related errors.
All tracking applications: Event reason codes can now be synchronized with backend
If a carrier provides an event reason code when reporting an event, it can now be forwarded back to SAP Transportation Management together with the actual event.
For the synchronization to work, solution owners must define the event reason codes and assign them to the event types in SAP Transportation Management. For more, see Maintain Event Reason Codes section in ‘How to Send Documents from SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace to Other Systems’.
All Tracking applications: New event type ‘Container provisioned’
The new event type ‘Container Provisioned’ is now supported. It can be displayed in the Tracking Timeline and the Events table on the detail pages.
SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration
Contracting: Carriers can add rejection note
When rejecting a freight booking in the ‘Confirm Freight Bookings (Ocean)’ or ‘Confirm Freight Bookings (Air)’ app, carriers can now enter notes in the ‘Notes’ section. The ordering party can view these rejection notes in their transportation system.
Contracting: Freight booking worklists distinguish between ‘new’ and ‘newly updated’ bookings
In the Confirm Freight Bookings (Ocean) and Confirm Freight Bookings (Air) apps, the following confirmation statuses have been introduced:
- New (Updated): Displays this status when the ordering party sends an update on a freight booking that has not yet been confirmed.
- Updated: Displays this status when the ordering party sends an update on a freight booking that a carrier has already confirmed.
Freight bookings with these statuses will be listed under the tab ‘New’ in the worklists and require action. Carriers can either confirm or reject.
Contracting: Maximum length of note text
The maximum length of note texts in the consumer APIs for Freight Tendering and Subcontracting has been extended to 3000 characters.
Settlement: ‘Invoice ID’ included in spreadsheet export
When exporting dispute details from the worklist in the ‘Manage Disputes’ app, shippers can now also view the ‘Invoice ID’ in the exported spreadsheet.

Deprecated value in Event Reason Code Descriptions code list
The CARRIER_OUT_OF_NETWORK value in the ‘Event Reason Code Descriptions’ code list has been deprecated. We plan to remove the deprecated value as of May 18th, 2024. Please start using the new CARRIER_OUT_NETWORK value before that date.
Deprecated values in ‘Transport Means Description Code’ code list
All existing values in the ‘Transport Means Description Code’ code list have been deprecated. There are 8 new values available to replace them:
- Truck (0001)
- Rail (0002)
- Airplane (0003)
- Courier, Express and Delivery Company (0004)
- Ship (0005)
- Car (0006)
- Trunk (Subcontracting) (0007)
- Railcar (0008)
We plan to remove the deprecated values as of May 18th, 2024. Please start using the new values before that date.
User Assistance – Logistic Service Providers, Carriers and Data Providers
As we continuously stive to provide highly relevant assets, three new functional training videos for carriers have been released recently:
- How to self-book dock appointments
- How to confirm ocean freight bookings ocean
- How to confirm air freight bookings
They have been added to the playlist that includes all carrier functional training videos.
