UA had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences and interact with around 70 students on the SAP UA Young Thinkers Program. The Institute was founded in 1993 with 125 tribal students and has grown into the largest free residential institute for tribal children. It provides holistic education from KG to PG, vocational training , food, accommodation, health care and all other basic necessities of life to 25000 indigenous (tribal) children of the poorest background absolutely free. The KISS Foundation has been registered in India, UK, USA and Sweden for wide visibility of KISS and resource generation for its expansion.
It was amazing to see the young kids making jute bags, clothes, toys with the help of teachers thereby enhancing their skills along with focus on education using technology. The students had some knowledge of MS office but had shown keen interest to learn HTML programming and create web pages since they found google very interesting. This remind me of the great engagement we have currently have with Hope Foundation School in Bangalore where we did a basic programming workshop for similar kind of students last year. UA would like to team up with the CSR team and explore similar engagement with KISS and hope to create a strong impact to these underprivileged students.
