About SAP Enterprise Product Development

In my last what’s new blog post I have talked about the growing popularity of SaaS-based Product Lifecycle Management solutions. This trend will continue to accelerate because today's customers demand individualized, sustainable, and high quality products with short delivery times. SAP Enterprise Product Development is designed to address these needs. If you are new to the solution, check out our newest product overview video:

In this blog post, I want to share the highlights of our recent product release and explain how we enable our customer to Define, Develop and Deliver intelligent & sustainable products.

Define

In the define process, product teams can collect ideas, prioritize these based on customer needs, and use the findings to create detailed requirements models. With the 2202 release, Requirements and System engineers can integrate their system models to SAP Portfolio and Project Management. This integration will increase the progress visibility and help project managers to communicate progress more effectively. Additionally, we have introduced a feature, which allows Requirements Managers to improve the quality of requirements based on rules. This innovation will help to increase the quality of requirements and avoid costly mistakes in the later stages.

Develop

In the develop process, product teams can detail out and implement detailed product designs. During this process product designers and engineers work seldomly alone. They interact with a wide variety of development partners and suppliers. A secure and seamless collaboration on structured and unstructured product data is essential to ensure projects stay in time and budget. With the 2202 release, we introduced a feature to create and exchange product data packages. Based on an out-of-the-box integration with SAP S/4HANA, engineers can now share multi-level bill of materials and other product data like documents and 3D models across the extended enterprise.

Deliver

In the deliver process, product teams can create additional value by offering digital services aimed at increasing after-sales business and driving customer satisfaction. Based on the growing acceptance of new business models, the latest release enables product teams to develop and monetize digital twins based on their actual usage. These IoT-based scenarios also require us to reduce data loads in the cloud. Therefore, we have also released edge capabilities with the objective to reduce the amount of IoT data being sent to the cloud. Additionally, we can now enable product teams to create and visualise 2D visual insights of products in operations.
