Nowhere is it truer that “you get out what you put in” than with a Learning Management System (LMS).  In the past, organizations spent weeks or months implementing a Learning solution, only to stack it with outdated, stagnant content that was not engaging for their learners.  With the SAP SuccessFactors Learning Open Content Network, first available in Q4 2014, we partner with external content providers, including Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) providers, so employees can easily access meaningful content.  Partners’ catalogs can be made available as part of Programs or Curricula, and directly assigned to employees by admins or supervisors.

Since the inception of the Open Content Network, we have expanded to seven out-of-box partners, with the most recent addition of edX in the Q2 2017 release.  We are thrilled about adding edX – the only nonprofit MOOC organization truly dedicated to driving meaningful learner outcomes for employees in the global workplace.  EdX’s content comes from 110+ partner institutions, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Wharton School, and Microsoft.  They offer a variety of programs, credentials and certificates that are designed to enhance learning at organizations and increase employee impact.  Their courses include high-demand subjects, such as Information Technology, Web Development, Data Analysis, Business & Management, Leadership and Professional Skills.  EdX’s ultimate goal is to improve individuals’ lives via advancing or launching their careers.

If you want to provide educational experiences to your employees from the edX catalog directly in your learning solution, the first step is to get an access agreement for your users with edX.  Once you have a user access agreement with edX, your System Administrator simply has to enable the Open Content Network configurations in:

System Admin>Configuration>System Configuration>Open Content Network

EdX can directly push your subscribed course library to your LMS environment, and your sys admin can then import relevant courses as items, add them to catalogs, assignment profiles, programs or curricula as required.  Your learners can easily find the courses in the Catalog, so that OCN courses are integrated with all internally provided content.
