Let's start with one of the usual questions- ‘Why is the help icon not visible on the UI and how can I solve this?’ The visibility of the help icon could be impacted by such issues as your system configuration or specific permissions. Your help icon might not be visible if SAP Companion parameters are not set appropriately. To resolve this, check your SAP Companion integration settings and ensure correct permissions are granted. Also, the guide available on our help portal provides detailed steps to follow when configuring your UI.

Moving on to what seems to be puzzling a lot of our users – the distinction between SAP Companion and SAP Enable Now. The image below shows the difference and overlap between the two.

SAP Companion is essentially a tool that delivers contextual help and learning content directly in your application. Its purpose is to facilitate a smooth SAP experience, making it easier to navigate the system and perform tasks. SAP Companion is a component of SAP Enable Now, available within your SAP cloud application to deliver standard embedded content.

SAP Enable Now is a comprehensive application for creating and deploying training materials and user assistance content. It can be used across various platforms, and supports multiple formats such as simulations, guides, and e-learning modules. In short, while SAP Companion is a tool for guidance within the application, SAP Enable Now is a content creation platform for training and user assistance. SAP Enable Now delivers many more features and functions, like

  • Business process model integration
  • Translation and versioning
  • Authoring of eLearnings and Simulations
  • etc.

Now, let's tackle licensing. A valid question we often get from customers is – 'Do I need a separate license for SAP Companion?' The answer is “not if you only consume the embedded learning SAP delivers with the application Companion is used in”. Any usage of the content delivered and maintained by SAP is included in your solution license.

Wondering which embedded learning and help content is available for which solutions? We’ve got a list for you on the SAP Help Portal.

Once you want to start creating your own custom content, you will require an SAP Enable Now license. SAP Enable Now is part of the SAP software portfolio and therefore requires a valid SAP software license. Check out sap.com to find out more.

Can you use SAP Enable Now in both SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud? Absolutely! SAP Enable Now supports multiple platforms and integrates quite seamlessly with both SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Finally, 'How do I configure the in-app help in SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP S/4HANA?' You can turn to the SAP Help Portal page for SAP Enable Now, which provides step-by-step instructions in the SAP Companion Integration Guide for Embedded Content. Use this to help you set up the embedded learning content that comes with your solution and the SAP Companion Integration Guide for any additional scenarios like custom content from your own SAP Enable Now tenant. To find out exactly how to set up SAP Companion for SAP S/4HANA, please see the Installation Guide for SAP S/4HANA.

To summarize, SAP is dedicated to facilitating a seamless user experience for all customers. We hope that this blog post has clarified some of the common queries within the SAP community.
