Last year we hosted our first how-to video workshop series, and it was a hit by all our team members who participated. We hosted another round of how-to video workshops for more of our team members to participate and get started on publishing professional videos for our community.
This series of new SAP PLM videos focuses on Knowing your Product. This includes videos like getting details on product behavior and functions, describing user experience, and understanding different platforms to find more information and experts!

1. How to set up functional sites with SAP Launchpad Service (SAP Build Work Zone)

2. From On-Premise to the Cloud with SAP ECTR and SAP EPD
The video discusses how a hybrid landscape can be set up, consisting of on-premise and cloud components, and how SAP Engineering Control Center and SAP Enterprise Product Development (EPD) can be used together to manage CAD models, materials, and BOMs (Bill of Materials). It is suggested that starting the process in the CAD system, creating a baseline in SAP EPD Configuration Management, and importing the engineering BOM into SAP EPD Product Structure can ensure a well-documented and compliant development process. 3. How to derive a Bill of Material from a document structure within SAP Engineering Control Center
Using a fork-lifter as an example, this is a tutorial video on how to derive a bill of material from a document structure within SAP Engineering Control Center (ECTR). The video shows how to use the function to derive the bill of materials from the document structure, and how to adjust and create the bill of material. It also explains that the document structure usually comes directly from the CAD system and will be used as a template for the BOM. The video concludes by showing the result of the bill of material in the SAP ECTR window.

4. How to work with phantoms when deriving a Bill of Material in SAP Engineering Control Center
A phantom is an assembly grouping together certain components, but that assembly shall not appear in the derived bill of material. Instead, all child components of the phantom assembly are moved up one level in the bill of material. This video supports you to understand how to phantoms behave in SAP Engineering Control Center alongside third-party CAD systems.
The video explains how to work with phantoms in SAP Engineering Control Center to derive a bill of materials. A phantom is an assembler grouping certain components that should not appear in the bill of material. Instead, all child components of the phantom assembly are moved up one level in the bill of material. The video demonstrates how to mark an assembly as phantom. The Bill of Material (BOM) items can be reverted and unset, and a similar setting can be done directly in the CAD system by marking the component as phantom. The information is stored in SAP and used to derive the Bill of Material.

6. How to benefit from In-App Help for SAP Enterprise Product Development
Did you ever get stuck when working on a new task with SAP Fiori Applications? SAP Enterprise Product Development is based on Fiori, and you can use the in-app help to understand the context of features of the different applications for SAP Enterprise Product Development. In-App Help provides documentation directly within the application, making it easier to complete new and unknown tasks. Users can launch the SAP Companion with one click on the question mark icon in the top right corner of the application, which opens a side panel with contextual help content that is dynamic for each screen.

7. Where to find APIs on the SAP API Business Hub
The video introduces the SAP API Business Hub for SAP S/4HANA bill of material. The API Business Hub is a web application hosted by SAP that allows users to discover, explore, and test SAP and partner APIs required to build extensions or process integrations. 8. How to configure a process route on the cloud
The video explains the concept of Process Route, a solution provided by SAP for business approval processes. It shows how Process Route can be used to model a process and assign each step to a user, position, organizational unit, or team. Process Route is a reusable object that can be modified even after the workflow has already begun. 1. Securely collaborate with suppliers using SAP Enterprise Product Development and SAP Ariba
This video is a demo of SAP Enterprise Product Development, collaboration, which is a solution for creating collaborative workspaces for sourcing projects. The video explains that the sourcing process can be challenging and keeping track of all documents, versions, comments, and questions can be cumbersome for all parties involved. SAP EPD Collaboration offers a solution that enables all relevant data from SAP S/4HANA and other sources to be shared securely in a common collaboration space. All parties can work on the same updated documentation, and everything is fully integrated with the Ariba sourcing suite. The video shows a demo of a generic sourcing task where the buyer prepares a document package to be shared with suppliers as a basis for a quotation. The demo showcases how documents are uploaded, members of the collaboration room are added, and the collaboration room is linked to the Ariba sourcing project using a reference object. The supplier is notified via email and accesses the collaboration room via the link provided. The demo highlights the benefits of SAP EPD Collaboration in effectively managing collaborations on sourcing projects, where all parties work on a common single source of truth without risks associated with versioning, authorizations, and traceability.

8. How to set up provisional specifications as an administrator – part 2
The video explains how to set up a specification exchange scenario on the cloud. The presenter explains that after setting up the source system and connection, the relevant data needs to be replicated to the cloud. Then, the presenter demonstrates how to load objects and create property groups that will be used later in the provisional specification. The presenter goes on to explain how to define templates and add compositions to them. 9. How to exchange specification – part 1
This video explains how the SAP Enterprise Product Development can be used to manage the communication and exchange of specifications between product developers and suppliers. The tool introduces a new business object called the provisional specification, which is used throughout the process. The video explains the steps involved in setting up the customizing, replicating value sets to the cloud, setting up equity property groups and properties, and creating templates. Once this setup is complete, the product developer creates a collaboration, invites suppliers, creates a request with an appropriate template and shares it with suppliers. The supplier opens the collaboration, creates a copy of the request, gives the required information, and sends it back. The product developer reviews the offers and selects the best or sends the request back for another iteration. Finally, if one offer is accepted, it can be integrated into the product development process.

10. How to exchange specification – part 2
The video explains in detail the specification exchange scenario, which involves a product developer (Fred) who needs a new chocolate supplier, and a B2B company (Jose's) who produces chocolate raw materials. The steps involved include Fred creating a provisional specification, selecting a template, and adding data from an existing chocolate specification, reviewing and modifying the specification, and assigning it to the respective collaborations. Jose then receives a notification, reviews the request, modifies the description and values, and saves the provisional specification before assigning it to the same collaboration. After some iterations, Fred finally receives the final offer from Jose, which he can use to create his recipe.

11. What’s New in SAP Engineering Control Center (ECTR) 5.2.6 and SAP ECTR 1.1.6 for SAP S/4HANA
The video is a brief overview of the latest highlights of SAP Engineering Control Center (ECTR) delivered in July 2022. The new update includes a huge list of new feature improvements and customer requests. The most obvious highlight is the new appearance of SAP ECTR, which comes with a new clean and fresh look and feel and allows users to switch to a dark mode. The new user interface also allows for preview thumbnails in many windows and tables. Another highlight is the new dialogue to derive a bill of material from a given document structure, which can be called either single or multi-level. SAP ECTR is also being extended into the process industry, allowing users to display recipes, formulas, and specifications inside of SAP ECTR.
