As an SAP Business One reseller partner in Michigan, we've been keeping track of inquiries and purchases of SAP Business One's cloud offering, and wanted to share our findings in the types of industries that are now taking cloud seriously for their business. We will briefly touch on where we've been, what we're seeing today, and pose questions for what we'll see tomorrow.
SAP Business One has offered OnDemand since 2012. At that time, we rarely had serious inquiries from the small and midsize market as to price and options for Business One in the cloud. For the most part, businesses were primarily interested in deploying on premise -- putting the application on a server in their facility. Historically our customers running SAP Business One were either manufacturers, distributors, or professional service organizations -- with manufacturing and distribution being fairly equal.
Today, two short years later, almost every inquiry for SAP Business One is either requesting pricing for both cloud and on premise deployment, or is solely interested in cloud. It makes sense that the cloud is becoming more and more viable and prevalent in a business environment. What is surprising is the make-up of the industries that are asking for it. Manufacturing inquires are outpacing the other industries, so while they traditionally have been equally adopting SAP Business One along with other industries, when it comes to the cloud they have higher than average interest.
It makes us wonder....
What is it about manufacturing that is causing them to be more apt to look to the cloud?
There is no doubt that SAP Business One is a good fit for light manufacturing. It could always handle bills of material and generate production orders easily. With new functionality in version 9.0 for resources and capacity, it brings further functionality for a manufacturing environment.
I would love to hear from manufacturers out there either looking at SAP Business One for the cloud, or running SAP Business One in the cloud to learn why they chose to run in the cloud, versus on premise.
