If you're interested in social media, you probably know Gavin Heaton (www.servantofchaos.com), at least virtually. I've had the pleasure of working with Gavin at SAP, where he has mentored many an eager collaborator.
Some time ago, I discovered that Gavin was moonlighting. Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone.
Gavin and his cohort Drew McLellan collaborated on a cool project back in 2007 called "Age of Conversation, 100 Voices, 1 Conversation". They invited 100 authors to donate their perspectives on social media, with proceeds for the book going to charity. The effort attracted a wide variety of contributors, such as G Kofi Annan, Spike Jones, Scott Monty, Mark Earls and Ann Handley.
It was so successul (and apparently fun) that the story continued in 2008 with "Age of Conversation 2, Why Don't They Get It?" The number of authors more than doubled, and the list is a who's who of marketing gurus from around the globe.
When Age of Conversation 3 was announced, I jumped at the chance to be a part of it - and I had to jump quickly because the spots were gone in a few hours. I love the diverse nature of this production, and the fact that the proceeds go to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The full title is "Age of Conversation 3, It's Time To Get Busy", and it's filled with advice on how to use social media effectively. Apparently self-publishing was not quite as easy as I had thought, so this version is being handled by Channel V Books, who offered their services for free in the spirit of the book. It will be out in hard cover, paperback, Kindle and iPad versions!
As the publication date approaches (mid-April), the excitement builds. I've just seen the cover design by Chris Wilson (http://www.freshpeel.com/).
If you're interested in the book, you can find details on all three AOC's at http://ageofconversation.com/.
Please meet the authors below, which include fellow SAPers Gavin Heaton and marilyn.pratt/blog. I'm honored to be a part of this wonderful collaboration. I hope you'll enjoy it.
