Guilty as I am of neglecting to share my thoughts more frequently on SCN, I wanted to make amends by pointing to a piece (The Ultimate Business Platform is here) that I posted on saphana.com just yesterday.

The morning of January 11, 2013, was very different for the world of enterprise computing. SAP's announcement from the day before had changed forever the way we will look at it. Combining the power and panache of the SAP Business Suite – itself a celebration of decades of innovation around business processes – with the audacity of breakthrough in-memory capabilities of SAP HANA, SAP has delivered the SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA.

As far as I can remember, traditional SAP customers (running SAP ERP, SCM, CRM and such) have always felt that their real-time experience was not as comprehensive as they would have ideally liked it to be. This was never a limitation of the applications, it was a limitation of the paradigm we were all living with – traditional disk-based database management systems come with inherent I/O performance limitations that cannot be wished away. This problem with traditional DBMS has pushed enterprises toward the classic OLTP and OLAP divide. We can now put a stop to all that. We can now handle OLAP and OLTP in one system. Now, we can also welcome the end of batch! With SAP HANA, it is not necessary to keep making the compromises of the past.

Feel free to join the discussion on the blog post (http://bit.ly/TYgyGy) at saphana.com or right here. Or, if you prefer to discuss on Twitter please use the hashtag: #SAPon HANA.

Welcome to the brave new world we found ourselves in on 1/11/ 2013!

P.S. Lately, I have been posting more frequently about topics more directly related to SAP HANA. You can follow those blog posts at: saphana.com
