The Best-Built Applications (BBA) guidelines are almost one year old! It seems like it was only yesterday when we launched the first edition. Since then, we’ve published six chapters and by the end of the year, we will have nine published chapters. To evaluate our progress, we met with several partners recently to ask them, "how are we doing?" and "what can we do better?" The partners gave us their candid feedback.

Overall, the partners liked our topic selection and said the BBA topics represented a wide range of development areas. Today, BBA has not played a major role in their development process; however, they do see a bigger role in the future, especially with new development. We were glad to hear the BBA is well-written; a stand-alone tool to convince their developers the value in aligning with SAP technology.

After all the kudos, partners also told us how we can improve BBA. What is my return-on-investment (ROI) for following the BBA guidelines? Partners invest time and resources to BBA and they want to see how their efforts translate to customer satisfaction and sales. Customers are the key reason to invest in BBA and, as such, they heavily influence the partners’ involvement with BBA compliance. The open question in their mind is – would there be a way to illustrate to customers their BBA compliance? We were not surprised to hear this as we are looking at ways we can show customers the value of working with a BBA-compliant partner. It is an area where we plan to develop more customer-focused communication to illustrate BBA value proposition. So stay tuned.

The partners gave us much food for thought. We take partners’ feedback seriously as partners are the prime audience for our BBA guidelines.
