Research studies from Forester about the success of BPM programs shows that the BPM program success rate (67%) is depending on the availability of a BPM Competence Center and a BPM CPO (Chief Process Officer). How can you make sure that your BPM Competence Center is working effectively?

The Enterprise BPM framework, introduced at the previous blogs, will help you in creating an aligned BPM project portfolio, BPM roadmap and select the required BPM platform.

The Enterprise BPM framework will also help to define the required BPM roles and BPM expertise needed within the BPM Competence Center.

The BPM CC supports the business and ensure the quality of the BPM architecture and has the skills to support the process improvement initiatives, the SAP projects and the SAP Competence center.

By the definition of a BPM competence center and a CPO (Chief Process Officer) the management commitment towards BPM is clear and will help to break down internal barriers.

The BPM Competence Center can start as a virtual team in which the different BPM and business roles can be combined within one employee.

The BPM Commpetence Center will grow over time as the need for BPM will become clearer.

The BPM Competence Center is responsible for the implementation of the BPM roadmap and the improvement of the BPM maturity in order to reach the expected BPM ROI.

The higher the BPM maturity the more the BPM platform will become a core application which is integrated within the daily operating activities of all employees.

Figure 2 : Evolution of business process modelling

The operational BPM platform will enable the alignment of the employees and the implementation of the concepts of EFQM and COBIT.

The progress of the BPM maturity can be measured using the BPM KPI's which are simular as defined within COBIT and EFQM.

Every organization can define their own BPM KPI’s based on the structure of the enterprise BPM framework and define the financial benefits linked to the BPM KPI’s.

The higher the BPM maturity level (alignment) of the organization the more benefits the organization will leverage from the Enterprise BPM framework.

The daily management of the BPM KPI’s will improve the realization of the BPM ROI and the effectiveness of the BPM Competence Center.

Based on the results of the on-line BPM maturity check the average BPM maturity level is between 1 and 2, which means that most organisations must focus on the formalization of the business processes and start implementing the virtual BPM Competence Center.
