Watch this video by Andreas Hammerschmidt to get a glimpse of the new features:

Enablement of New Resource Related Intercompany Billing

Let us start with one of the highlights for this release, the enablement of new resource related intercompany billing. Here we have the billing profile for intercompany billing to replace the intercompany dynamic item processor (DIP) profile. The configuration expert can flexibly define and maintain the project billing material determination and its criteria for the intercompany billing profile, add additional activity types and materials to the end-to-end process of intercompany billing, and leverage the “activate new features” application to enable the new intercompany billing.

This will help users to improve financial review of consulting revenue in billing of intercompany services, eliminate restrictions for adding further activity types and billing materials in the intercompany process, eliminates restriction of maintaining only one Intercompany sales order between a delivering and ordering companies, and provide more options of transparency with extensibility option.

They have the capability to create intercompany billing document requests through the application job, which can be used as a source for generating intercompany invoices, to trace billed data enables self-manage of postings that should be billed, and enable process extensibility to display custom fields in time sheet in the detailed list of Intercompany invoice.

Let’s have a look at the system for a demo:

Preliminary Billing Documents for Project-Based Services

Next we are enabling project billing specialists or billing team members to make certain adaptations to preliminary billing documents through a new application that is tailored to project-based services.

This will reduce time to bill by enabling specialists to make intuitive and quick invoice adaptations and increase efficiency in billing.

Enhancement of the Combined List of Customer and Internal Projects

With SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition 2308 we delivered the new app “Project Control – Professional Services Projects”, to provide a combined list for customer and internal professional services projects. We enhance this list with an initial version of a project overview page. The app can be used as an alternative entry point for professional services projects and now provides a first set of key information in the same place. It shows project responsibilities for customer and internal professional services projects, key information for billing elements of customer projects using the new billing approach, including next billing due date and amount to be billed and billing documents for customer projects using the new billing approach.

In case the user has additional roles assigned, additional navigation for billing elements and billing documents are supported.

Let’s have a look at the system for a demo:

Visibility of Manual Debit and Credit Memos in Project Billing (4E9)

Going back to the project billing functionality. With this release we provide the ability for project billing specialists or billing team members to directly see the impact of debit and credit memos that are posted to financials, without side-by-side calculations.

Additional impact on the Estimated Actuals column (unbilled plus billing in process plus billed).

The capabilities here include:

  • Subtraction of a credit memo (CM01 from CMR4) from the billed amount

  • Addition of a credit memo cancellation (CMC1) to the billed amount

  • Addition of a debit memo (CI01 from DMR4) to the billed amount

  • Subtraction of the debit memo cancellation (CIC1) amount from the billed amount

New Insights for Documents in Project Billing (4E9)

This next topic focuses on increasing the transparency in the billing process and improving the usability of bill preparation. Project Billing Specialists or billing Team members are receiving the ability to get more details on the objects that are displayed in the popovers in project billing functionality through navigation and preview options. You will find links to project billing requests, billing document requests, and billing documents as well as invoice previews for billing document requests and billing documents.

Facilitated Repricing in Project Billing (4E9)

Next let us take a look at the facilitated repricing in project billing. This functionality gives the ability for project billing specialists or billing team members to trigger a price inconsistency check during the preparation of the bill. If the billing specialist clicks this button and a price inconsistency is detected (for example, because the price has been changed for a material), the billing specialist is asked whether they would like to run repricing now. If the billing specialist chooses „Yes”, a repricing job is run automatically. It is executed for the entire project of the corresponding project billing request. If the billing specialist chooses „No”, no action is taken.

Let’s have a look at the system for a demo:

Reduce Project Administration with Scheduled Sync of Customer Projects Planning Data with Financial Accounting (J11)

The new feature provides automatic sync of planning data to financial accounting by providing a batch job to automatically synch and update all customer projects. It provides automatic synchronization of planning data to finance. This minimizes inefficient and time-consuming manual efforts of syncing of planning-data projects with finance individually.

This capability transfers project plan data to finance and captures the relevant messages in an application log, processes only customer and internal projects that are in execution stage and provides an option to perform a simulation.

Calculation of Planned Revenue for Customer Projects based on Customer Activity Types and Service Materials (J11)

Even though this innovation is part of the J11 scope item and therefore refers to the customer projects functionality it is only relevant for those customers who are using the “New Project Billing” functionality in scope item 4E9.

It incorporates flexible material determination in calculating planned revenue for your customer projects. Again this configurable method of revenue calculation is only possible if you have selected the Use Project Billing (4E9) option while creating the customer project.

This helps to improve the monitoring of customer projects by enabling project planning that is closely aligned with the corresponding project billing, which happens latter in the process.

Simple Reassignment of Staffings (6JO)

This innovation is part of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud for Projects on the BTP. It improves the usability of the resource management functionality and its main user the resource manager. It delivers the ability for resource managers to re-assign existing assignments to other team members. You can copy and paste existing assignments in the Manage Resource Utilization app to other team members. This is a simplification of the re-assigning of resource requests.
