From SAP GUI to SAP Fiori with SAP Business Client 7.70

More and more customers are on their journey to SAP S/4HANA. Many aspects must be considered related to the move. One of them is:

UX

Find valuable recommendations in Jocelyn Darts blog post and have a look on number nine of her Top 10 Tips for SAP GUI-invested users.

Just to highlight one of her Tips – the App Finder:

The app finder is a tool for finding SAP Fiori, SAP GUI (Web Gui and Win Gui in case you are using the Business Client), and Web Dynpro ABAP apps, all in one place, and then adding them to your home page.

The app finder lists all the apps available for your role that you may potentially use in your daily work. You can access the app finder in your launchpad from the options bar in the Me Area.

To see your user menu and SAP menu in the App Finder your administrator has to configure it accordingly.

      Dear Sandra

Need your suggestion, we are going to go-live with s/4 Hana 1909, BW/4 HANA, xECM, Ariba & BO applications with very minimal Fiori apps. we have not developed hierarchical navigation menus for roles. We want a single entry page for our users, can we use BC connection type of SAP BC. where users will log into BC and will have index page with details of other systems. As per your recommendation it is Fiori launchpad but kindly provide your thoughts on using BC connection type.

      Regards

      Nava

      Dear Nava,

how are you planning to access your "minimal Fiori apps"? Parallel via browser? Think about the user experience. Regarding UX we really recommend the launchpad. Running the launchpad within BC is a good way for transitioning your users from SAP GUI to SAP Fiori.

      Dear Sandra

Thanks for your support. We are using on-premise servers. We are planning to create a role in S/4 with folder name FIORI pointing to FLP and other folders with respective target system info (ex:BO) etc. After user logs on to BC based on his requirement he will click on the folder and a new tab opens with Fiori (and based on his authorization required Fiori tiles will be visible) or BO etc. Do you see any challenges in this approach.

      Dear Nava,

navigation can be a challenge. You have to see Fiori as a holistic approach. Described in the following session with regards to Fiori implementation, the video from 2020 TechEd shows the improvements in implementation tools: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iefdWAZCg50.
