SAP Fiori to Improve Businesses and Self-Service Apps

UX has become critical in today’s age where device fragmentation renders screens awry and harried users are more likely to simply leave a page that is confusing or does not appeal to them.

What is SAP Fiori?

Fiori, the new offering from SAP, is a collection of applications that may be applied to commonly used functions such as work approvals, financial transactions, calculations and more, to improve the UX and design of the respective function. Applying Fiori ensures the design principles work words across devices, offering a reliable, user-friendly experience.

The SAP UI5 library offers over 600+ icons, and over 200+ user-interface concepts, including charts, maps, and other resources. These resources offer unique variants favoring different design, device, and browser requirements. The underlying API provides easy access to live data, with much greater and speed compared to conventional methods.

Different Types of SAP Fiori Apps

SAP Fiori apps are divided into three categories

Transactional Apps: SAP Fiori offers transactional apps to perform transactional tasks such as a leave request from an employee to manager, request for travel, and more. These apps allow a user to run simple SAP transactions across devices.

Analytical Apps: Analytical apps provide role-based information about business operations, in real time. These apps integrate the power of SAP HANA with SAP business suite to pull in real-time information from large data swathes to the front-end web browser. Managers, strategists, and other users may use Analytical apps to monitor Key Performance Indicators and other key parameters on a real-time basis. They may also use these apps to perform complex aggregations and calculations related to business operations and take real-time decisions, to respond to changes in market condition effectively.

Fact Sheets:  Fact sheets allow users to navigate to transactional apps and run SAP transactions. Users may call fact sheets from the Fiori Launchpad, from Transactional or Analytical apps, or from other facts itself. SAP Fiori tiles enable the user to drill down to further details inside the fact sheets. For instance, in a fact sheet app containing details about vendor contract, the user may drill down to further details such as vendor details, contract terms, item details, and more, allowing for more logical representation of data.

Why use SAP Fiori?

SAP Fiori leverages the power of simplicity, to offers a seamless, steady and logical experience to users. It offers a number of advantages, such as:

Simple and Coherent Design: Fiori templates offer a coherent UI design, allowing users to grasp the displayed content easily.  Fiori reengineers and groups various transactions and roles into interactive applications, highlighting the most relevant information for each user type. The easy role-based navigation gels in with the way the user works and the environment.

Responsiveness: SAP Fiori is adaptable and responsive. The single code base is capable of executing seamlessly on different form factors and executing well on different platforms such as SAP Portal, ABAP, SAP HANA, and others. Fiori uses OData as the connection between the UI and the backend SAP, and this is a marked improvement from the incumbent SAP GUI, was not much adaptive.

Easy Customization: Fiori allows the user to control both the layout of the homepage and the navigation. Users may re-organize tiles, add, delete, rename or reorder groups, or co-opt advanced visuals and animations without any difficulty.

Speed: Fiori offers an easy way to present the required information on different devices, without compromising security and speed. The UI5 library framework, which comes with Fiori, authenticates data using asynchronous call backend, meaning the app does not have to wait for the complete page to load before presenting the data. The API also features two-way binding methodology, meaning users do not have to send a new request every time to process the data.

Security: Fiori enhances compliance and data quality by making it easier to enter information in the system. The UX consists of extensive radio buttons and pull-down menus, to reduce data entry errors.

Improved Productivity: SAP Fiori ensures faster and direct access to relevant information, better transparency, and timely notifications. The system prompts users on what needs to be done next, enabling quick, timely and informed actions. With SAP Fiori, the entire gamut of enterprise operations may be digitized, and control may be exercised from one’s fingertips, anytime, anywhere. For instance, managers on the move, for a conference or a business meeting, may approve a leave request easily, through her laptop or smartphone. Likewise, a quality analyst may observe asset defect in real-time on a mobile device without having to log in to a desktop or laptop. All these take productivity to new heights.

The ability of SAP Fiori to harmonize user experience across on-premise and cloud solutions makes it the leading design for all SAP applications. SAP has been continuously developing ready-to-use elements to make the user interface more reliable and consistent. Fiori is the latest development in this front and represents a quantum leap, establishing new benchmarks in UI and design.
