SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP08 now available. Now, faster and easier to build flavors
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP08 picks up where SP07 left off, simplifying the flavor building process and making the Slipstream Engine component even more robust. The broad adoption of the Slipstream Engine means we received much valuable customer feedback, which we integrated into the product. In addition, the many partners using SAP Screen Personas to deliver the SAP Fiori user experience to their clients pushed us to make it faster and easier for them to build flavors.
Adoption of SAP Screen Personas among SAP S/4HANA remains strong. These customers rely on SAP Screen Personas to fulfil the SAP Fiori vision of having simple, role-based screens that run on all their devices.
“SAP Screen Personas is a key part of our Fiori and user experience practice. It is a fast and easy way to translate the customer requirements we uncover in design thinking sessions into beautiful Fiori screens that run on any device.”
– Gavin Quinn, Founder, Mindset Consulting
While there are many new features (over 150 backlog items!) in SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP08, we will discuss three big innovations in this blog:
- New editor for creating viewports
- Adaptive flavor lines that show all available flavor sizes
- Right-click in the editor
New editor for creating viewports simplifies using this powerful feature
In SP07, we introduced viewports to reduce the complexity of large screens and improve their performance by breaking the screen into smaller “virtual” screens. While the customers that implemented this feature loved it, there were others that were intimidated by the scripting involved to make it work.
For SP08, we built an editor for viewports. Now, you can create a set of linked screens to break a complex process into manageable chunks, all without opening the script editor. We hope this will make the powerful viewport feature accessible to more customers.
Adaptive flavor lines show all available flavor sizes and allow switching
Adaptive flavors have been very popular since we added this functionality, in response to your requests to run SAP Screen Personas flavors on mobile devices. Now, building a collection of adaptive flavors is even smoother.
You can see the breakpoints for each adaptive flavor, indicated by the vertical lines on the screen below. The bold line marks the flavor you are editing. You can switch to the other flavors by clicking on the adaptive flavor name at the bottom of the screen. Now, you can simplify flavors and see more easily how they will look on your various devices.
Right-click speeds flavor development
When you are performing multiple operations on the screen, every mouse click or movement takes time. We heard from some customers that were building large collections of flavors (hundreds, in some cases) that they wanted right-click access to commonly-used SAP Screen Personas functions.
We have created this new feature in SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP08. When you select a control, your right mouse-click brings up a subset of the commands you can perform on that control. So, no more moving up to the toolbar for simple actions such as hiding or formatting a button or input field. Now, you should be able to roll out the SAP Fiori experience even faster for classic ERP screens in ECC and SAP S/4HANA.

Support runs through 2023
Here is our current support strategy for SAP Screen Personas 3.0.

- We support the current as well as the two previous Service Packs. What does this mean to you?
- SP08 will receive continuous innovation
- SP07 will get important fixes and selected down ports
- SP06 will receive emergency fixes
- SP05 and earlier will no longer be supported

Hi Peter,
when switching to SP08 is there anything to take into account when it comes to already existing viewports from SP07?
Best regards
Christian
Hello Christian -
Please refer to the section "How to migrate existing flavors" in the SAP Screen Personas documentation
Currently, it requires a manual step to create viewports, but we are working on an update that will allow for an easier migration process for the existing SP07 flavors using viewports.
Thanks
Vandana
Hi Vandana,
indeed I missed that section. But the viewport editor is locked down for flavors with viewport. The issue is known and a fix is in the preparation according to your support team. I will post the note here once it is available
Best regards
Christian
Hello Christian -
What do you mean the viewport editor is locked down for flavors with viewport?
If you are using adaptive flavors then you need to switch to the parent flavor and then create the viewport screens.
The issue that we are currently working on is to support existing flavors so that by default SP07 flavors with viewports will still continue to render properly.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Vandana
Hi Vandana,
that was my bad. At a first glance, I thought this would also work on the adaptive flavors (which would be more intuitive, but as the same scripting is working in the backend that is logical to have it only on the parent flavor).
Thanks for the information
Best regards,
Christian
Hi Peter,
where can I see the backlog items that have been changed? I'm wondering if in SP08 we can increase the height of "All items" GuiTableControl in "Item Overview" tab.
Thanks for your work.
Best regard,
Sérgio Miguel
Hi Sérgio,
The feature you mentioned is not in SP08. We are working on it now.
Many of the backlog items are listed in the release notes.
Regards,
Peter
Hi Peter,
Is SAP Screen Personas 3.0 available (supported) for SAP Banking Services 9.0 (NW7.50)? Many of the large complex screens in SAP Banking Services are generated via BDT, and I heard a few years back that SAP Screen Personas could not be used with SAP Banking Services. Was hoping this may have changed??
Regards
Shaun
Hi Shaun,
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 supports BDT screens with SP06 or later. To enable the BDT support, please refer to note 2451049.
NW 7.50 is supported. For specific versions and/or limitations that my be applicable, please also review notes 2713229 and 2050838.
Thanks and best regards,
Ashley
Hi Peter,
Thank you very much for this great blog.
Is it possible to install SAP Screen Personas in the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.51 SP02 Trial Version? I would like to learn how it works on my private notebook.
Thanks an best regards,
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
I am not aware of any technical reasons why this would not work. But, you will need to check on the licensing. Since SAP Screen Personas is an add-on (even though it has no additional fee), I'm not sure if it is eligible for installation into a trial system. Perhaps you can check with your account executive.
Regards,
Peter
Hi Peter,
thank you very much for your answer.
Our Basis-Administrator has kindly installed this add-on on a sandbox machine and I am very impressed of this great add-on.
Is this add-on really free? no additional license-cost when we use productiv?
Best regards,
Stefan
One of the best products “noone” uses. It’s almost criminal the number of SAP people that don’t even know this exists.
I don't get why this doesn't come by default with S4HANA, instead of having to be a explicit software install. I bet if this came with the "standard" install, a lot more people would use it.
Hi Joao,
Thanks for the comment. We are trying to get the word out at TechEd (and year-round).
Regarding your second point, SAP Screen Personas and SAP S/4HANA have different release cycles, so the current add-on approach ensures that customers can download the latest version of each solution to meet their needs.
Regards,
Peter
I get the advantage of that, but I think you should consider the disavantage in terms of user adoption. This tool should be used by almost every project and the reality I see is that in many places that software component isn’t even installed. After installation its hard for functional consultants to ask for more software components, most don't bother.
I’m currently in an extremely large SAP implementation and on the proposed technical architecture Personas was not there, I had to explicity ask for it.
