Continuing along with the SAP HANA Cloud Integration for Data Services portion of the SAP HANA Academy’s Live 4 ERP Agile Solutions course, tahirhussain.babar show you how to connect to a SAP ERP system using HCI-DS. This will create a datastore that will be used as a source dataset in order to load data into the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. Watch Bob's tutorial video below.

(0:45 – 1:55) Creating the ERP datastore in HCI-DS

In the DATASTORES tab of your HCI-DS account click on the plus button to add a new datastore. Bob names his new datastore MyERP and leaves the Type as SAP Business Suite Applications and leaves his default Agent.

You must enter the Application server name, the User name and Password under the Credentials and the Client number and System name under Locale SAP. After entering that information click on save. Now your datastore (connection) has been created.

(1:55 – 2:05) Testing the Connection

To test the connection, have your recently created ERP datastore selected and then click on the icon to the right of the plus sign that reads “Test Connection with Default Configuration.” You should get a confirmation message that says the connection was successful.

(2:05 – 3:20) Importing the Source Tables

There are many ways to import the source tables. One possibility is to scroll down the complete list of SAP tables but this isn’t advised, as there are over 10,000 tables. A great feature of HCI-DS is the option to import an object by name. So with your ERP datastore selected click on the Import Object by Name button. Choose Table as the Type enter VBAP as the name before clicking OK. Follow the same simple steps to import the three other ERP tables (MARD, MAKT, T001W) by name.

Now after connecting to those four source tables you can see the objects’ name, type and description. At the bottom of the screen you can view the various columns of each of the individual tables.

Reminder the SAP HANA Academy will build, for free, an ad hoc SAP ERP Agile Solution for any SAP ERP or Business Suite customer. Please contact us hanaacademy@sap.com to inquire.
