How was the performance of the SAP HANA Prototype at Pirelli? Rapido!

At SAPPHIRE NOW in Madrid we had the chance to speak to SAP client Pirelli, one of the world’s largest tire manufacturers. By the way, at SAPPHIRE NOW you could find two examples of cars that rely on Pirelli’s premium tires:

In one of the microforum sessions at the SAP Active Global Support Center, Daniele Benedetti and Flavio Colombo – the Pirelli IT Project Leads – provided insights on the SAP HANA Rapid Prototyping project at Pirelli. They informed other customers and SAP colleagues on the proof of concept scope and the final test results:

The goal of the proof of concept was to optimize the sales data grouping custom report inorder to leverage SAP HANA and compare the report runtime before and after the optimization. The results were phenomenal! Compared to the competitive solution, the storage gain with SAP HANA was approx. 48%, including less space consumption for backups, reduced backup run time, less disk consumption for the DB, and reduced DB growth. Highlights of the performance improvements include a significant report runtime reduction by factor 8 through ABAP code adaption and usage of SAP HANA, and the database runtime was reduced by factor 3 by the usage of SAP HANA.

Daniele Benedetti, one of the Pirelli IT Project Leads, was also joining us in a short video where he provided a snapshot on the successful SAP HANA Prototype at Pirelli:
