The hard part of being just human is that you can be in only one place at a time. And you feel this limitation accutely at SAP TechEd, where there are always so many great sessions to go see.
A query on the TechEd Las Vegas session database for topics related to the cloud brings up more than 100 different sessions. My guess is that you have to clone yourself about 6 times to be able to make them all simultaneously. If you are advanced with your virtualization skills, maybe you can do this!
If you haven't filled your TechEd dance card yet, then here are some last minute suggestions for can’t-miss sessions to learn about cloud strategy for SAP operations, and SAP offerings served via the cloud.
Among the key cloud topics being discussed at SAP TechEd include:
- How to manage on premise SAP Software in a private or public cloud.
- Leveraging the cloud as part of an enterprise architecture
- Software as a Service (SaaS) applications from SAP
- Developing cloud applications on a Platlform as a Service (PaaS) – either Java PaaS or SAP Business ByDesign PaaS
I've tried to create humanly possible itineraries that allow you to focusing on one of the above topics. Many of the sessions below are repeated more than once. So if you find a session time clashes with other sessions you want to see, be sure to look for another time for the conflicting session.

How to manage on premise SAP Software in a private or public cloud. This includes the basics for managing software virtualization of SAP systems, lots of access to experts and experienced customers, and some partners featuring their solutions and services.

Software as a Service (SaaS) applications from SAP. Here are sessions about specific SaaS solutions from SAP such as SAP Business ByDesign, SAP StreamWork, SAP Bi OnDemand. This focuses on the applications themselves, not specifically the add-on opportunities for partners. The funny thing about SaaS applications is that they don’t require a lot of technical expertise since they come as an online service. As a result, there isn’t a lot of education provided. If your interest is knowing how to deploy these applications within the context of your enterprise, see the sessions under Leveraging the cloud as part of an enterprise architecture as well.

Developing cloud applications on a Platlform as a Service (PaaS). These sessions are geared to developers such as those from SAP partners that want to develop apps or create custom solutions on top of one of SAP’s platform as a service (PaaSO offerings for SAP Business ByDesign, the forthcoming “edge” or “NetWeaver OnDemand” PaaS, and SaaS offerings such as SAP StreamWork. In developing the tracks it is clear you have to choose a platform specialty – either Java OnDemand oriented or SAP Business ByDesign oriented
Here is the suggested track for the Java OnDemand environment. We also include some important cross information about SAP’s PaaS strategy in general, Best Build Apps, information about cloud and mobile security, and an introduction to SAP’s Code Exchange project. Finally, we provide an exposure to River, another development environment that runs on the same PaaS as the Java OnDemand environment.

The ByDesign PaaS track focuses on what you need to know about building cloud apps for SAP Business ByDesign customers, including mobile apps. We also provide important theory about SAP’s PaaS strategy, cloud and mobile security, and SAP’s Best Build Apps guidelines. Finally ,we fit in a small bit of a development environment in SAP’s other PaaS: River.
