SAP Integration Update Part 6 – Web Intelligence 4.0 and custom structures

In case you missed the previous posts here the links:

SAP Integration Update Part 1 – Crystal Reports for Enterprise and SAP NetWeaver BW

SAP Integration Update Part 2 – Crystal Reports for Enterprise and Hierarchies from SAP NetWeaver BW

SAP Integration Update Part 3 – More Hierarchies with Crystal Reports for Enterprise

SAP Integration Update Part 4 – Crystal Reports for Enterprise and Custom Structures

SAP Integration Update Part 5 – Web Intelligence 4.0 connecting to BEx Queries

Now lets take a look how Web Intelligence 4.0 is able to leverage custom structures.

Our BEx Query shown above contains a key figure structure with four keyfigures – each keyfigure showing the revenue for a particular quarter.

Our characteristic structure shows our product areas – Laptops, Monitors, and PDA – with the speciality that I added a hierarchical “spin” here moving the PDA product area below Monitors.

After we established the connection in Web Intelligence 4.0 we can leverage the available meta-data from the underlying BEx query.

All four keyfigures are available with the actual numeric value, with the assigned Unit and as formatted value based on the user profile.

The characteristic structure (here PRODUCT_STRUCTURE) is available with a default hierarchy, in our example shown belo the element PRODUCT_STRUCTURE with the slighly hierarchical symbol.

After we added the default hierarchy for our characteristic structure into the list of result objects we can leverage the member selector and are able to see the complete list of structure elements and can decide which structure elements are being used for our report.

In addition you can see that the hierarchical nature of the custom structure is leveraged as well.

In our report we can leverage the custom structure like any other elements and like before with the member selector the hierarchical nature of the structure is leveraged as part of the report as well.

I hope this quick showcase of a custom structure created as part of a BEx query used in Web Intelligence 4.0 helps you to understand some of the upcoming capabilities of SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 in combination with SAP NetWeaver BW.

      Hi Ingo,

When working in BW with structures (in column and in rows) there is a possiblity to create calculations in specific cells (certain junction between the structures).
Do you know whether this is fixed in 4.0?

      kind regards,

      James Jie

      Hi,

I assume you are referring to the Cell Editor. If so - that is already supported in XI 3.1.

I would suggest that you post those kind of questions into the corresponding forums.

      regards
      Ingo

      Hi Ingo,

Good to see your blogs again now that the BO 4.0 is being released.

I'm in a beta/ramp-up BO 4.0 implementation in which we have implemented some Interactive Analysis reports.

We like to use that new BEx queries interfaces but we have some problems. We don't know yet how to  avoid the #UNAVAILABLE and #TOREFRESH tags.

For example, we want to include a new column in a table displaying a concatenation of 2 objects(Infoobjects from a BEx query) immediately all figures in the table. Or for example we have a column with the Site object and we want to insert a link to another webi document. If we insert a link there a #UNAVAILABLE tag is displayed for all key figures.

Is there any way to "unlink" some columns when the Interactive Analysis uses their values to delegate the aggregation for BEx query datasource key figures? Or is there any way to disable the Database delegated for the ley figures (as we did when building a UNiverse on top of BEx)?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answer.

      sergi ,

we are at 4.1 Sp4 and  we still get #UNAVAILABLE error when using database delegated keyfigures.

were you able to resolve or find a workaround with database delegated key figures ?

the following note suggested  with 4.1 we can work with database delegated key figures without any issues  but no luck  in our case .

1606502 - BI 4.0: #UNAVAILABLE in Web Intelligence report using BEx query

Let us know if you were able to solve  . t

      Thanks

Thank you very much for a wonderful blog.

I just wondering if there is any workaround/soultion to leverage/similate Key figure custom structures created in BEx?

      Thanks again.

      Hi Ingo ,

Can we create a report filter on hierarchy of custom structure ?

report filter on  structure object ?
