Unable to connect / see a Diagnostics Agent

Dear Experts,

I am connecting an S/4 Hana system to a second Solution Manager (v. 7.2). The SMD Agent is installed, but not appearing in solman_setup - the classical scenario.

I opened E2E_AGENT_FWK. I could only see the agent after clicking on the button 'Show disconnected agents'.
But then I can not do nothing with it. I have tried restarting it with the MMC options, I also restarted it on OS level.
I ended up even reinstalling the agent and that didn't help either!

After that, I was tempted and I pushed the button 'Remove entries for offline agents' in E2E_AGENT_FWK. Since
then I do not see the agent at all. I have reinstalled it and restarted it numerous times, NOTHING helps!

I have checked all the logs and didn't find any errors. The only thing that looks a little suspicious is the following entry at the end of the dev_jstart file:

WARNING => SfCJavaProcHandler(smdagent)::doProcState: unexpected 1040 RUNNING in state 1040 RUNNING! [sfxxproc.hpp1107]

I was trying to google for it, but didn't find any cause or proposed solution and I am not even sure, that it's the culprit of my problems here.

The next thing I tried was running the script ./smdsetup.sh managingconf hostname:"myfqdn" port:8102
This returns among many other things in its output: parameter 'managingconf' ignored because of missing value.

I have also checked the SMD Troubleshooting guide without much success...

Now I am getting nuts on this and I have no further ideas on how to get this damn agent connected. Please kindly
give me a hand on that! Any help would be highly appreciated! Many thanks 🙂

Hello Norbert,

I did the authorizations modifications as per note 2385361. I can FINALLY see the agent again, but there is not
much to it, because I am back where I have started:

The diagnostics agent selected if offline, only SAP MC actions are possible.

I have no idea what to do now, any advice will be highly appreciated!

Hello Norbert,

many thanks for your answer! Yes, I heard from somebody that there is a change in authorizations.
I will look into the note which you are mentioning.

I have tried to blame it on an old Diagnostics Agent installation. On Friday I installed an agent using the newest
media and it did not help at all 😞 The agent can't be seen.

I am wondering why the other agents are connected and have no problems. I am just unable to register / see
recently installed agents. Agents which I have installed after the last SPS upgrade on the Solution Managers.

Thanks again.

Hi Symon,

following SAP note 2385361 "How to connect Diagnostic Agent to SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system".
While I did not have "a newly installed Diagnostic Agent" creating a UME user and modifying the mentioned role and then running smdsetup.sh (Linux) with user and password helped me to connect one of the disconnected agents.

Will now work on the others.

Best Regards, Norbert

Hi Symon,

I seem to have the same issue:
28 agents online, 48 offline, lot's of 1040 messages and can't figure out what the issue might be.

Any further findings or responses from SAP ?

Kind Regards, Norbert
