We would like to upgrade Solution Manger by new installation.
Is it a must to install Solution Manger Java System?
In master document,
Java System in SAP Solution Manager
Purpose: The Java system in SAP Solution Manager provides the Java foundation of SAP Solution Manager.
Which feature or function required Java system?
Dear Customer,
Yes, Java Instance is required to have a fully operational Solution Manager system, which means it must be installed for both the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 ABAP system and the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 Java system. They run on separate instances now but still work together.
Without Java stack, you do not have a fully functional SAP Solution manager for its basic functionality. For example, Solution Manager Diagnostic Agents (SMDAs)/Byte Code Adapters (BCAs)/CA Wily Introscope/SLD, which are a very important part of Solution Manager.
You can check KBA 2577037 - Does Solution Manager 7.2 need ABAP and JAVA stack?
or refer to Master Guide and Upgrade Guide: https://help.sap.com/viewer/p/SAP_Solution_Manager (on top of the page you can choose your SP version)
