SBOP BI Platform Middleware/Warehousing

Hello Experts,

Do you have any resource or reference for middleware used in terms of Sybase IQ, SAP BW (legacy-not BW/4HANA), and MS SQL? We have poured through the SAP documentation, and they all seem like viable options for middleware/data warehouse/reporting DB's with respective pros/cons. However, we do not want to get in a bad position halfway through the implementation (i.e. any major implications or limitations). Any help and/or outside perspectives are much appreciated.

For example, are there white-papers, or analysis for the different integration options above? I've exhausted SAP material but maybe I am missing value information, such as customer testimonials or references, etc?

Solution: the newest BI Edge 4.2 package (with Data Integrator to facilitate ETL and assist with modeling and Sybase IQ cores included as an option).

I can provide further details upon request. Thanks.

Best,

Jake

What are you looking for exactly ?
It is not clear from your question.
Are you looking for which DB drivers you need to use with Bi Edge to connect to Sybase/BW/SQL Server or you need help deciding which reporting DB to use ?

Hi Denis,

We are currently assessing which middleware option to utilize for our implementation, so the reporting DB that would house and maintain data to be utilized in the reports. I understand the SAP products have similar pros/cons but was looking for any additional insights, accelerators, benefits, etc.

1- Sybase IQ

2- SAP BW

3- SQL

I have plenty of documentation for BW as this is usually our preferred approach, however, given the new product and licensing structures for BI 4.2 Edge, we wanted to explore all options from different perspectives.

Thanks

Jake

what you have listed is not middleware, those are Databases.
Are you looking for which database to use as your CMS DB for the Edge product you're going to use ?
If so - select the one you are most familiar with. Or has most expertise in-house.

Data in the report is from the Reporting databases you already have, so whatever data source you got - you'll need middleware/drivers for that datasource.

I think the original question is confusing.

no.

This would be a fresh database. We would load data from various source systems into this database (i.e. ECC-BW-BOBJ would use standard extractors and drivers, ECC-Syabse IQ-BOBJ). We would then query and build reports with BOBJ. I was simply asking if there are resources or additional SAP references to help us make a decision with which database product to select. We would very much treat this like an additional reporting layer or warehouse.

The middleware/drivers are included with BOBJ for each source we have identified in our initial scope.

OK, so you're looking for a best reporting DB, into which to load data from other DB's you have. Correct ?
Then my first question would be why ?
Why go thru all that data transfer hassles instead of reporting from your source systems directly ?

As to the best reporting DB - HANA, obviously. 🙂

Hello,

We have a similar issue and design consideration. Any findings from the SCN community/experts?

Thanks
