SAP HANA Express can't connect from Eclipse

Former Member

Hi experts,

I'm trying to connect to HANA express database (installed on my laptop) from Eclipse with the SYSTEM user and getting an error "Invalid user name or password". The thing is that I have followed all the instructions in a "getting started" manual (including the change of initial password for SYSTEM user). The database is running properly, IP address is OK as well. What can be wrong?

I'm running a virtual machine image (server only) from Orcale VirtualBox. Everything is installed on my Mac.

Cheers,
Vlad

Thank you for the answers. I resolved the problem by re-importing the VM and going through the password change procedure for SYSTEM user once again. Seems that I typed something wrong the first time when I performed the password change. Now everything is OK.

I have the same problem. I can not connect my virtual machine to eclipse. Is the password of the SYSTEM user changed once I change the user hxeadm password the first time the virtual machine is launched??

This should be a separate, new question. The password of system is changed when the VM is first setup. You are prompted to specify a new HANA master password that affects users like SYSTEM, XSA_DEV, XSA_ADMIN, TEL_ADMIN, etc.

Hi Vlad,

It could be a keyboard mismatch between host OS and the VM.

There is a playlist about SAP HANA express on our SAP HANA Academy YouTube channel where configuration of keyboard and using a terminal connection to the VM for easy copy/paste is addressed:

Vlad, this sounds like you're typing in the wrong userid and/or password. It's case sensitive so be sure you're typing everything correctly - ie. if a combination of lower and upper case.
