SAP EWM RF With Screen Personas and Slipstream Engine

Hello Experts,

We are considering using the SAP Screen Persona service, ewm_mobgui, for RF devices instead of the usual normal ITS service. However, just curious if combining this service with the Slipstream engine would further improve the RF user experience and potentially provide a Fiori-like interface on RF. Does anyone have experience/ information on this?

There was considerable investment into improving the EWM RFUI experience with Personas in the latest service pack. I would strongly recommend going with SP18 if you intend to take advantage of Personas in this area.

SAP Screen Personas can be leveraged to customize/simplify classic SAP GUI transactions including EWM RFUIs using the WYSIWYG visual editor, scripting, and some other features. You can, for example, hide unnecessary fields, add new controls, automate user input, etc. Such customizations called flavors are applied at runtime without needing to change the underlying app. Hence, the SAP Screen Personas is only required for your RF screens if you'd like to further simplify them.

SAP Screen Personas flavors can be built only for EWM RFUI applications (SAP delivered and custom-built) rendered in EWM_MOBGUI or Slipstream Engine service. ITS Mobile rendering does not support SAP Screen Personas.

You don't require any conversion to use your custom RF screens in EWM_MOBGUI or Slipstream Engine instead of ITS Mobile.

If you have a recent S/4HANA version that features the EWM_MOBGUI service (S/4HANA OP 2021 and above), we highly recommend using it with SAP Screen Personas. It was purposely built to support EWM RFUI specific use cases and requirements such as the performance on industry scanners. For more information, please refer to the How-to guide here

As Tamas commented, please also make sure to install the latest SAP Screen Personas SP18 version which comes with a set of relevant functional and non-functional improvements.

Slipstream Engine is a UI5-based generic rendering engine that can be used together with SAP Screen Personas to build mobile-friendly versions of all web-enabled classic SAP GUI apps. Consider Slipstream Engine for EWM_RFUI transactions when the dedicated MOBGUI service is not available and the ITS Mobile is not suitable, for instance, when SAP Screen Personas customizations are required.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, we have the latest Persona version with SP18, so exploring further with it.

Just a small clarification needed about your last statement ` SAP Screen Personas customizations are required.`

Would you please clarify what does it mean? Because we have a lot of existing custom RF screens with custom Menus in the current ITS world, so I hope we will able to convert/use those custom screens/Menus into a persona as it is...

Hi Sagar,

Personas customizations is a different term for the adaptation of the UI for which you decided on using SAP Screen Personas in the first place. You can use SAP Screen Personas on top of your SAP-standard or your custom screens.
