SAP BW 7.5 / Power BI SAP Business Warehouse application server connector

Dear All,

I’m using Power BI SAP Business Warehouse application server connector to bring data from a SAP BW BEx Query into Power BI. Everything was running smoothly until I added a specific dimension.

To simplify I’ve created the following example that brings 9 employees:

The issue happened after adding the dimension ZGTAP_CAP - employees 373886 and 272534 disappeared:

Looking at the listcube everything seems to be fine with employees 373886 and 272534:

Does anyone have a clue why adding this dimension is removing employees?

Thanks,

Frederico

This rather looks like a question for Microsoft than for SAP?!

I have no idea about Microsoft Power BI, but I assume it uses SAP NCo for executing certain function modules in the SAP BW system? If this is the case and you know a bit about how Power BI works and what FMs it uses for retrieving the data, you could

  • activate the RFC trace for NCo (either Power BI provides a property for that in its UI, or you set the environment variable RFC_TRACE=4),
  • then execute once the query that works and once the one that doesn't
  • and finally compare the two RFC traces with each other to see the difference.

Perhaps there is some kind of "where-clause" transported in one of the RFC calls that leads to different select statements for these two cases?! (Only guessing...)

Hi Ulrich,

Thanks for your input.

You're right! I'm using SAP NCo 3.0 as described in SAP note 856863.

My background is from SAP BW and, since this is the 1st time I'm using Microsoft Power BI, I still don't know much about FMs it uses, but I'm going try to find out and activate the traces as you suggested.

Kind regards,

Frederico
