Hi Guys,
I have a question regarding the difference between connection and OLAP connection in SAP BO 4.2.
To my understanding, OLAP connection is used for S/4 (CDSVIew) and SAP BW on HANA (bex query and compositeProvider). It can be created in BO CMC.
While, connection is used to connect to database like HANA(calculation views), oracle or HTTP. It is basically a universe concept and is created via BO IDT. In order to use BO auditor which is based a universe model on top of tables. So It needs to create connection.
Is my understanding correct?
Thanks
Steven

OLAP stands for "Online Analytical Processing". Generally data that's delivered through OLAP is in a multidimensional "cube" format that is configured for easy and fast drill-down. It's a different way of processing/querying data from traditional database queries. Frequently cubes are pre-processed data that gets refreshed outside of the query/reporting process, much like a data warehouse's data.
In addition to BW and various things in HANA, there are OLAP databases like Microsoft SSAS (SQL Server analytic services) or OLAP cubes in Oracle. You need OLAP connections to connect to these types of databases. The connections can be created/edited in the IDT or (I think) Universe Designer and you can create OLAP universes in either.
