Restrict web based data maintenance tool for characteristic based on one compound object

Hello Experts,

   I created a characteristic that compounds two objects. One of the objects is an authorization relevant object that I assumed would automatically restrict data any where the new characteristic is used. When trying to populate the new characteristic using the web based master data maintenance tool, I noticed the data was not being restricted. What settings are necessary to make this possible?

I tried setting the Auth Relevant flag which did not help:

I tried the master data maintenance flag, but that stopped all data from showing. I assume security has to be setup for the combination of both compound objects in this case?

One setting I thought may help that I see in BW doesn't appear to be available in the Eclipse modeling tool.
