Performing backup and archiving without Backint

Hello,

We want to change way how to backup our SAP Oracle database.

Currently BRtools are not used but its used Netbackup and RMAN. And in this scenario we as SAP admins dont have access to log files, because they are stored on different systems with other logs just from standalone oracle databases for other applications.

We would like to start using brarchive and brbackup to have log files on place and be able to make restore or recovery without help of people who now managing backups.

I would like to ask what options we have and what do you recommend.

We are taking only full online backups every night, because space on disk where are backups stored is not problem (we keep just last backup in month on tape) and archiving every hour. We have SAP PI systems with small DB (around 200Gb) and Oracle 11.2

Do we need use and of course buy (I dont think its in same license for Netbackup) backint utility? Or we can skip netbackup and use just BRtools and RMAN?

Thank you for your advises and sorry for not understanding how netbackup is working pretty much.

Hi Matej,

That is not true. You can check the RMAN output (=logs) from SAP as well.

Go to DBACOCKPIT and check the view V$RMAN_OUTPUT: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25513/dynviews_2148.htm#REFRN30305

Well, that depends on your used/licensed Netbackup agents, but as you mentioned that you are using native RMAN right now - i assume that you are currently using the agent for "NetBackup Oracle". If you want to use BR*Tools right now, you need the backint stuff and this is included in the agent for "Netbackup SAP".

However all of this is described on the Symantec homepage: http://www.symantec.com/netbackup/agents-options-add-ons

Stefan

Please read RMAN Backup with an External Backup Library to understand this process.
