How to deploy FIORI Launchpad, when we have HANA XS running on HANA DB?

What would be the requirements and procedure to deploy FIORI Launchpad on SAP HANA XS running on HANA DB. Do we really need SAP NetWeaver Gateway ?

Can you please explain your question with a little bit more details? What is your goal, to add an XS(A) app to an existing Fiori Launchpad running on a Fiori Frontend Server or to deploy a Fiori Launchad on HANA XS or ... ? You asked a quite similar question on SO (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/51868575/where-can-we-deploy-fiori-launchpad-when-we-have-hana-x...) therefore I think you mean using a Fiori Launchpad on XS Advanced, right? If yes, see the answer on SO.

Hello Florian,

As I understand from various blogs and internet search, FIORI Launchpad needs Fiori Front End Server on SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP.

And as per your answer in Stack Overflow, the standard documentation of HANA XS says that we can create FIORI Launchpad Site modules in HANA XS itself and deploy and run them in HANA XS. Now, I am little confused that what is the difference between the Fiori Launchpad Site and Fiori Launchpad running on front end application server ABAP. From Fiori Launchpad application running on SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP, we can still access the XS OData services and the same can be done from Fiori launchpad site running on HANA XS.

Are there any specific situations where we should go for 'Fiori Launchpad on SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP' or for 'Fiori Launchpad Site deployed on HANA XS'.?

Also, when we use Fiori Launchpad Site deployed on HANA XS, do we get the same features of a Fiori Launchpad running on SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP?

Looking forward to your response, since I am not able to understand the difference.

Thanks,

Shivam

Basically both versions are the same and give you a single entry point to start e.g. your Fiori applications. It is an architectural decision how you wanna use them respectively what for you is available. For instance if you have "just" a HANA XSA server and no Fiori Frontend Server (based on NetWeaver) or a Fiori Launchpad Portal Site in the Cloud or a ..., and you wanna use a Fiori Launchpad the Fiori Launchpad of XSA is the option to choose.

In case you are using e.g. a Fiori Frontend Server as single point of entry it needs to be discussed if e.g. your XSA just provides the services which are used by Fiori apps deployed to the Fiori Frontend Server.

Regarding the feature set: I do not know any official list which can be used for a comparison, but my personal experience is that the XSA Fiori Launchpad site does not support (at least until now) the same features than a Fiori Launchpad on the Fiori Frontend Server.

As you are a SAP employee (according to the icon next to your name), maybe you can ask these questions internally too.
