Cannot modify ume.superadmin.activated property

Cannot activate SAP* in Java only instance – cannot edit UME properties ume.superadmin.activated or ume.superadmin.password – option to set custom value is greyed out.

Java instance sources its UME from ABAP. ABAP was refreshed, accounts were recreated and current passwords were used. Now need to set passwords in the RFC destinations in the Java instance. Using configtool.sh, database is started but Java instance is down (cannot start until the passwords are reset in the RFC in the Java instance).

Since Java instance is not started, Global configuration is not available – only “template – Usage_Type_All_in_One”. Open services ->  com.sap.security.core.ume.security. Scroll down to ume.superadmin.activated, double click on it. I can see value = FALSE but I cannot type into the “Custom Value” field and the “Set Custom Value” button is greyed out.

I cannot start the Java engine because I need to first reset the RFC destination passwords.

We refreshed this system previously on 29-Jan-2013, had to activate SAP* in the same manner and it was successful at that time. Now, we cannot do this and do not understand why it is different.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Deb Nugent.

This has been resolved. The answer is odd so I will send you exactly what I sent to SAP in my message. I had been routed through at least 3 people at SAP on this. Each kept asking for me to repeat the same steps. They wanted me to navigate down to the parameter and double click on it.

I was repeatedly aske dfor screenshots of each step. I was ready to escalate the call.

I was asked to right-click on a property and there was confusion about exactly where the SAP rep wanted to see the right-click. So we had gone back and forth a few times on this question before I was given some indications of what the rep wanted. I was pulling the screenshots.

I wrote to SAP:

In sheer frustration at being asked to repeatedly do the same things
by different representatives at SAP, I got to the screen where one
should be able to change the parameters. I scrolled down to the
paramter ume.superadmin.activated, the one I wanted to change. I double
clicked on it and again, no screen popped up. This is where my
frustration came to a head and and I did what I tell others not to
do... I just kept clicking repeatedly on the parameter in frustration.

The pop-up screen appeared after many clicks. I was able to change
the value for both parameters and restart my instance. I was able to
log in as SAP*, make the changes that needed to be done and then change
the parameters back to default values again.

I am now able to access my Java instance again.

I will make a note of this - I should not have to click so frequently
to get into change mode. I tried to experiment to see the actual number
of clicks that were needed to get into change mode but it varied from
8 to 15.

Hi,

Please check if you are in edit mode before making the changes.

I am in editor mode when I attempt to change the value. I have confirmed that several times. I have tried to edit it both from the "Configiguration tool mode" and the "Configration editor mode".

I have tried to see if there were other fields that could be modified and there are. This further confirmed I was in editor mode.

But in either mode, the parameter for the ume.superadmin.activated field is still not modifiable.
