VIM: single document type for multiple channels

Dear gurus: 

We would like to know if it is possible to assign a single VIM document type for multiple channels. 

The reason: we have 2 different sources for the generation of DPs (invoices) but we would like to avoid having duplicated document types. Not sure if it is feasible to include some logic to differentiate the mappings for each channel and manage it with a single document type.

Could anybody help us with this topic, please?
