Single Inbound delivery with multiple containers

Hi, gurus.

I'm new to S/4 Hana and EWM and I'm working as a material planner.

We are building a new system with consultants and the IT department but there is a problem with the management of inbound delivery.

I have a material that the monthly requirement is about 10,000 tons.

Delivery lead-time is about 2 months and B/L is usually issued with hundreds of tons of the material.

But the point of view for management way is different with IT department.

They are trying to make inbound deliveries for each container because they need to trace the materials each containers have.

In this case, about 1,000 inbound deliveries covering 2 months of the lead time will remain every time and I should manage the inbound deliveries. (a container is 20t / 20,000t will be goods in transit to cover the lead time)

We even do not use EDI and will upload an Excel sheet for creating inbound delivery.

I think that the inbound delivery should be created based on B/L and it should be managed by handling unit or another way.

Would you please give a tip for this situation?

I'd like to know if I can use the HU identification 2 field for distinguishing containers.

- Requirements

1) Top-level Handling Unit is a pallet.

-> I suggested they use a container as one of HU but it has been denied due to time limitation.

2) They want to post GR based on a container.

3) They also want to know what pallet is in which container.

Thank you.

Hello @KihoKim

Inbound delivery should be used to implement an inbound shipment that an vendor confirms to you. In other words it should reflect bill of lading. Inbound delivery describes what is being delivered, not how a shipment is packed.

Handling unit object is used to implement packing details of an inbound delivery.

Of course you can use HU identification 2 to store a container number.

It looks like your project is facing time constraints, so HU implementation is being descoped and inbound deliveries will be used instead. That is a shortcut in my opinion that is going to backfire soon.
