You may have heard about ANST (Automated Notes Search Tool) and PANKS (Performance Assistant Notes and KBA Search).

Both ANST and PANKS make it possible to find SAP Notes and KBAs directly from your system, based on the context:

  1. Valid for your system and Support Packages level.
  2. In the case of ANST, relevant for the replicated process.
  3. In the case of PANKS, relevant for the message class and number and the context from which the ABAP message has been prompted.

However, you may not know there is another tool that searches for SAP Notes directly from transaction ST22. Our SAP colleague, peter.john developed this helpful feature some years ago, but still SAP users or “dump victims” are not very acquainted with it. I hope after publishing this article more SAP users will benefit from it.

How “ST22 SAP correction Notes search” works:

It is very simple:
Those dumps belonging to the categories “ABAP programming error” and “Screen programming error” come along with a “Note Search” button:

After clicking on the SAP Correction Notes icon, you will receive a pop up screen with the notes, if found.

In the example above, SAP correction notes will be searched that:

  1. Contain the following search terms: DATA_OFFSET_TOO_LARGE RPULCP00.
  2. Are valid for your system and Support Packages level.

Warning: The “SAP correction Notes” icon does not show up when the dump occurs but only displaying the same dump from transaction ST22.

You will find more information about this new functionality in the following KBA:

2102812 - Search for correction notes in transaction ST22

The following video demo is also available:

A huge thanks to carlos.martinezescribano for putting together this information!

Hi Kristen. This is nice functionality that I didn't know existed. Thanks for sharing.

Kristen,

I did not know about this.

One thing: When I looked at my ST22 I also found a button "Recommended Solution".

The system is 702.

Sounds like it might be useful, but I don't see the new button in my system.  (702)

Is there a certain Basis release we need to be on, or maybe a patch for the ST22 program?

Not sure about that. Our packages:

SAP_BASIS    702    0014    SAPKB70214

SAP_ABA    702    0014    SAPKA70214

I did notice one thing. The two buttons are not always active. I had to click on several dumps before getting both buttons.

That might explain it.  It's been a couple years since we have done a support pack.  we're on 0010.

Hi all,

Digging into your questions a bit with our support teams, and here is what we have so far:

There are some specific dumps for which there are registered tools to help further with the dump. It's still a functionality that is being tested. (Recommended Solution being one of them).

As for the button, the note search button only shows up for “category of ABAP
runtime error is ABAP programming error or screen programming error.”

See Knowledge Base Article 2102812 - Search for correction notes in transaction ST22

Cheers,

Kristen

Hi All,

After talking to our developers in Germany, they have told us that the registered tools icon is an already released functionality

“Owners” of runtime errors , ie our kernel colleagues,
are able to a. provide and b. register reports to automatically remedy the
faulty context which caused the specific runtime error. The “recommended
solution” icon should only appear if such a report is registered for the
current runtime error; if you click on it the report should be launched.".

Happy new year,

Carlos.

Hello,

when I selected a dump in the ST22 and then press the button SAP Correction note there is a short dump:
In the program "CL_CWB_OBJECT_COMPOSITION=====CP "
the following syntax error has occurred:
Field "IV_SCWB_PUSH_DARK" unknown.

Any idea what is going wrong?
