Have you heard about the SAP Big Data Bus? Maybe you were so lucky to have seen the outside of it. But,

you know where the real magic is? Of course, it’s inside! And we’re even more excited to announce that the SAP Big Data Bus will be parked inside the Javits Center at NRF 2014 in New York City from January 12-15, 2014.

To help you visualize the experience once you hop onboard, here is a thorough explanation of what you’ll see:

We begin the tour with two “Wow” demos to make people stop and think about what monetizing Big Data in real time really means.  At the end of the day, Big Data isn’t simply about storing vast amounts of data, it’s about leveraging that data in real time to change the customer experience and influence buying decisions.  We will follow up the initial two demos with three other demos that are purely Retail focused.

Host Pro – This is an art of the possible demo. This is a demo that showcases how multiple sources of data can be analyzed in real time within the setting of a new sports stadium.  The envisioned application is all about pulling data from many sources, Sound dB, Video analysis, Social analysis, Wi-Fi triangulation. The host pro app is the all in one app for stadium fan management. This application will allow you to take data from all the mentioned sources and find that needle in the haystack. See who is socially engaged and where, manage customer satisfaction by monitoring social media and tie in to ERP to see who they are to your business.

Real Time Offer Management – Using the construct of an online interactive game where thousands of players are engaged simultaneously, this demo highlights how personalized offers can be made to participants to not only change their experience but to drive incremental revenue.  Over 5,000 events each second are being analyzed in real time to determine what offers to present each player so that they play the game longer and have an improved experience.  These personalized offers drive substantial incremental revenue due to the fact that they are the right offer, delivered at the right time to the right individual.

Sales Analysis for Retail - Given the volume and velocity of data, Retailers often end up with analytics which are based on aggregated and stale data.  Sales Analysis for Retail provides rich content for every critical decision that is based on the most granular data in near real-time.  Across the organization, whether it is in Merchandising, Marketing or Store Operations, employees now have access to a consistent view of results enabling them to make better decisions.  All of this content is available on both the desktop as well as a mobile device so that employees are no longer tethered to their desk and are able to make meaningful decisions as they roam the store floor.  Based on an ARTS data model and leveraging the power of HANA, we provide the tools to improve profitability and performance.

Lumira – Starting with a simple view of Sales by Location based on POS data, we begin adding additional dimensions until we have layered a total of 7 dimensions into a single view of the data set.  We finally animate the data by viewing it over time.  All of this is accomplished with just a few selections on a mobile device providing employees the ability to create virtually any analysis of the data in a self-service mode.  There are no longer any limitations on the volume of data that can be queried and analyzed in real time.

Store Analytics - The Jones Hypermarket app was created by the Mobility Innovation Center.  This app highlights the ability to use location services on a shopper's smartphone to identify traffic patterns and sales conversion.  If a shopper has enabled the Retailer's loyalty app on the smartphone then it specifically identifies the shopper with past purchase data.  It also identifies product promotion effectiveness and enables modifications and "what-if" analysis with respect to promotions.

We are scheduling tours in advance for the Big Data Bus so that NRF participants do not have to wait in a long queue to view the bus.  So be sure to contact your account team to reserve your tour (limited walk-up tour times will be posted at NRF)

For those that are not able to get a tour of the bus, we will have three individuals outside of the bus to handle Big Data conversations.
